Honoring Families identifies and recommends dignified and fair processes for the resolution of divorce, separation, and custody in a manner that is more accessible and more responsive to children, parents, and families. Educating Tomorrow's Lawyers identifies innovative models of legal education that align legal education with the needs of an evolving profession.

Position Summary

The Legal Assistant will provide legal assistance to IAALS Initiative Directors and/or Senior Research Analyst as necessary to fulfill IAALS mission. This administrative position involves a wide variety of tasks and responsibilities, including assisting with preparation and review of materials, research and writing related to specific legal topics; general office administration; event coordination; and performing legal research as necessary and gathering information using online and other methods.

Essential Functions

  • Assist with preparation and review of materials related to initiative and research objectives on legal topics.
  • Assist with research and writing related to initiative and research objectives on legal topics and for a legal audience, including attorneys, judges and the courts.
  • General office administration, including file maintenance and scheduling.
  • Assist with initiative specific event coordination.
  • Perform legal research as necessary and gather information using online and other methods.
  • Assist other administrative staff when short-handed

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, with a focus on writing ability and attention to detail.
  • Ability to draft error-free business correspondence and materials using proper grammar and appropriate tone.
  • Ability to interact professionally and directly with a variety of stakeholders and partners, including judges, attorneys, and academics.
  • Appreciation of the IAALS mission and vision.
  • Approaches even the simplest tasks with a positive attitude; appreciates that all assignments big and small contribute to the success of the organization.
  • Computer proficiency, including Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access; familiar with Publisher and Adobe Web Premium Suite.
  • Skilled in navigating online tools and platforms, ability to search and compile complex legal information via the internet.
  • Adept at managing multiple projects concurrently and able to prioritize appropriately.
  • Strong organizational skills, clarity, and the ability to anticipate follow up and future assignments.
  • Ability to meet established deadlines.
  • Appreciation of and keen eye for detail.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations while maintaining composure.
  • Team player, skilled at working with others.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, with a focus on writing ability and attention to detail.

Required Qualifications

  • Associates degree or comparable experience.
  • At least three years of secretarial, paralegal, or administrative experience in a law firm or professional office.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher.
  • At least six years of secretarial, paralegal, or administrative experience in a law firm or professional office.
  • Experience in the legal field.

Work Schedule

Monday through Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm.
