Assistant Professor of Graduate Education - 000505

The School of Professional & Continuing Studies at the University of Richmond seeks to fill a faculty vacancy in the area of Graduate Education. The position is a nine-month, full-time non-tenure track teaching position that includes teaching and advising students in Graduate Education programs, research, School and University service, and coordination of responsibilities for the accreditation of Graduate Education programs in the School of Professional and Continuing Studies (SPCS).

The initial appointment will be made for a probationary period of up to three years at the Assistant Professor level, to begin no later than August 1, 2018, with opportunity for subsequent reappointment and advancement in five - year increments, providing for full faculty status in SPCS. Applicants must have an earned doctorate in Education or a related discipline with a successful record of prior teaching in a higher education or K-12 setting; working with graduate students; knowledge of research methods, particularly as it relates to program evaluation and accreditation; understanding of and service to the field of K-12 education; demonstrated leadership abilities; and an interest in adult and continuing education.

Responsibilities:

  • teach 5 courses annually, with a focus on equity-mindedness, globalism, secondary methods and/or instructional technology;
  • pursue a research agenda that focuses on K-12 education
  • coordinate compliance with accrediting agencies (CAEP, SACS) and understanding state and national standards for approval of Graduate Education programs;
  • interface with SPCS Enrollment Management and Student Services and the University Registrar as appropriate to ensure proper collection of data related to Graduate Education students;
  • maintain and analyze Graduate Education program data for purposes of meeting accreditation standards and for program improvement;
  • provide assistance in developing and monitoring budgets related to accreditation and standards compliance for Graduate Education programs;
  • working with the Office of Institutional Effectiveness and other units related to accreditation and standards compliance Graduate Education programs
  • provide technical assistance to adjunct faculty in Graduate Education in the areas of accreditation and standards compliance
  • assist with coordination of the Teacher Licensure Preparation Program;
  • assist in advising students in the Teacher Licensure Preparation Program;
  • assist in the preparation of course schedules;
  • work collaboratively with faculty in Graduate Education in SPCS and with faculty in Undergraduate Education in Arts and Sciences
  • work with Marketing and Communications as appropriate to support Graduate Education programs, including attendance at recruitment events;
  • provide assistance in adjunct faculty hiring;
  • assist in the review and award of scholarships and other awards for the department;
  • serve on SPCS and University committees, as assigned; and, Assistant Chair
  • carry out other functions as may be appropriate to the position.
