Clinical Fellow, Federal Tax Clinic

The Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra University, located in Hempstead, New York, is seeking to hire a Clinical Fellow for its Federal Tax Clinic. The Clinical Fellow will function as a staff attorney, providing legal services on a pro bono basis in matters involving U.S. federal and New York State income tax matters.
The Hofstra Law School Federal Tax Clinic represents low income taxpayers in connection with tax-related matters including: consultation concerning tax questions or matters; representation before the Internal Revenue Service concerning examinations, appeals and collections matters; representation in regular and small case proceedings before the United States Tax Court; and representation before the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance concerning examinations, appeals and collections matters. The Clinical Fellow will collaborate with faculty and students in client selection, client representation and community outreach. In addition, the Clinical Fellow will have the opportunity to supervise and mentor students. The Clinical Fellow will carry his or her own caseload, appearing at and participating in appellate and court conferences and hearings. The Fellow will report directly to the Clinic Director, who is a member of the Law School faculty.
This is a one year appointment.

- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Demonstrated interest in the field of taxation
- Prior clinical experience preferred but not required
- The applicant must be admitted to the New York State Bar or have taken the New York State Bar Examination
