Two positions of FACULTY MEMBER IN NURSING – MEDICAL-SURGICAL are available in the Academic Affairs Division. This position is on a full-time, 10-month, basis reporting to the Chair, Department of Nursing.
FUNCTION: Responsible for planning and making available appropriate study materials; conducting educationally valuable activities in the classroom or laboratory; making assignments of student work; and evaluating and grading student progress. Specific responsibilities include: teaching the equivalent of 30 teaching load hours over the academic year; administering appropriate examinations, including final examination during final examination week; maintaining grade book; scheduling and posting a minimum of five hours per week of office hours; providing educational advisement to students, including directing those in need of assistance to appropriate laboratories, clinics, or counselors; cooperating with the Library staff and division chair to assure adequate library and materials are available for each class; assisting in the curricular and staff development necessary to create new learning opportunities for students or to maintain the viability of current offerings; using a variety of teaching methods in order to meet the learning needs of the individual students; assisting with development of philosophy, objectives and policies of the program; preparing course outlines and lesson plans in accordance with the philosophy and objectives of the program, translating the objectives into expected student behaviors; assisting with admission of students; assisting with evaluation of the program; attending divisional meetings, general faculty meetings and college-wide meetings as required; supporting the teaching team contributing to orientation of new faculty, communicating between and among team members and cooperating in implementing the course and related activities to maintain program integrity; serving on appropriate college committees and performing other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS: Master’s degree in Nursing (or waiver from the Maryland Board of Nursing), current unencumbered license as a registered nurse in Maryland, clinical experience as a RN within the last five years, technical experience with high-fidelity patient simulation equipment and a variety of low- and medium-fidelity simulation equipment. Prior college teaching experience preferred. Knowledge, skills and abilities required include knowledge of current clinical practice and evidence-based nursing, knowledge of basic principles of education, skill in communicating with students and other faculty members, skill in manipulating equipment, ability to plan and organize lab sessions for students in various nursing courses, and knowledge of use of technology in education. Variable schedule includes evenings and Saturdays.
SALARY: Generally, the college places new nursing faculty at the rank of Assistant Professor, where the minimum base salary is $50,000. Actual salary placement based on education and experience. Position includes an excellent fringe benefit package.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FOR NURSING FACULTY APPLICANTS: One-half of reasonable travel expenses over 150 miles are paid by the college for the first visit. The entire cost of travel for the second interview is paid by the college. The college does not pay for relocation expenses, nor does the college have tenure. However, following a one-year probationary period, year-to-year contracts are provided until three years of satisfactory service are completed, after which time 3-year contracts are provided.
