Duties: Catalog and process new material as it arrives. Correct the cataloging records of older material in the collection as needed to ensure access. Assist with inventory and shifting as needed. Assist with the management and correction of compliance issues as they relate to the grant funding requirements. Assist with proofreading and editing for grants and other documents as needed. Coordinate the printing and dissemination of the center wide publications and design and create new publications (e.g. signage, newsletters, brochures, etc.) as needed. Assist with our working papers systems. Assist with the maintenance and development of in-house databases (e.g. Endnote, MS Access) at the PSC including data entry, fact checking, and CV culling for grants reporting. Work with consultants as needed. Assist with configuring the Drupal CMS to meet the needs of the center and assist with the regular updating the PSC websites as needed. Create special event websites as needed. Photograph researchers and PSC events for the web. Assist and train patrons with the use of the Demography Library Collection as well as with the online Resources available via Penn Libraries if needed including providing technology/software training and instruction or troubleshooting. Assist with providing reference and research services or publications services (e.g. professional posters, graphics including figures and tables, PPT) if needed. Work on special projects as they arise. Perform additional duties as assigned. Provide excellent customer service. This position is continent on continued funding.
Qualifications: High School degree and 5 to 7 year's of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience, are required. Bachelor's Degree or Master's with course work in social sciences, library or information sciences or related experience strongly preferred. Drupal CMS experience required. Experience and proficiency in using the Adobe Creative Suite required. Willingness and aptitude to learn new software as needed for special projects is required. Knowledge and understanding of the nature and function of academic research libraries, of library services, library standards and procedures and of bibliographic records, cataloging, and library information storage and retrieval systems required. Extensive experience using the Library of Congress classification system and MARC required. Hands-on experience with copy and original cataloging required and use of the EOS ILS highly desired. Ability to operate standard library and office equipment, such as printers, scanners, copiers, and PCs, required. Expert word processing skills and experience with Internet, email, use of the Microsoft Office suite including Access, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint, and Publisher required. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required to establish and maintain effective working relationships with library users and staff. Ability to prioritize and work independently on multiple projects while meeting deadlines required. Must be able to function as part of a team and develop good working relationships with a diverse level of employees. Must be flexible and able to adapt to changing priorities and have a willingness to learn new skills as needed. Ability to perform detail-oriented work is essential. Ability to learn and understand relevant library terminology and functions required. Ability to lift, transport, sort and shelve library materials necessary.
