Associate Research Scholar
The Lewis-Sigler Fellows Program at Princeton University provides opportunities for those who are expecting or have recently obtained a Ph.D. degree in areas relevant to modern quantitative and computational biology, including biologically relevant chemistry, computer science, mathematics, physics, or engineering. The Program provides Fellows a generous salary and an annual research budget to carry out an independent research program. Fellows are not expected to apply for outside funding. Independent research is carried out under the mentorship of the Lewis-Sigler Institute, which includes faculty in Molecular Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science, Chemical and Biological Engineering, and Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. Appointments, which are made at the rank of Associate Research Scholar, are for a three-year term, renewable for another two years pending satisfactory performance. To be considered, the candidate must have demonstrated the ability to carry out independent research aimed at understanding how biological systems organize, integrate and carry out complex processes. Research will be conducted in the highly collaborative environment of the Lewis-Sigler Institute, in which scientists from a number of disciplines are developing novel approaches to the study of biology in the post-genome-sequence era. Current faculty in the Institute address diverse areas of biology ranging from microbiology to systems neuroscience with the common theme of using the combined tools of mathematics, physics, computer science and chemistry to solve these problems. Subject to approval by the Dean of the Faculty, Fellows may have the opportunity to teach in an interdisciplinary program for undergraduates as well as to guide students in research projects.
