Staff Assistant, Research Analyst

Department Summary: The mission of the Office of Institutional Research is to provide accurate data and analytical support for official institutional reporting, university planning and to improve institutional effectiveness by initiating and conducting original studies that inform University policy development, academic programs and the BSU environment.

Position Summary: The Research Analyst (Staff Assistant) is responsible for the analysis and dissemination of institutional data that support decision-making, reporting and planning in the University's academic and administrative areas. This is an exempt, APA unit position and is subject to the terms of that union agreement.

Essential Duties: 1. Provide data services to the University by accessing available data sources, extracting and transforming data, and analyzing and summarizing data findings for a wide variety of audiences 2. Conduct institutional research studies, perform statistical analyses, interpret research findings, and develop reports and presentations of office research projects using tools and technology including SPSS, NVIVO, Qualtrics, or other software 3. Prepare, analyze, and disseminate institutional data for external purposes, including requests from government agencies, accrediting bodies, college guidebooks, surveys, and other external agencies 4. Develop customized data analyses and reports for internal purposes, such as the BSU Factbook, program review, department enrollment trends, and ad hoc requests as needed 5. Work with IR staff to evaluate data files and ensure the integrity and accuracy of data extracted from various sources, including Banner 6. Work with IR staff to validate data for the University Data Stream initiative 7. Serve as the administrator for the office intranet site including development of content posted on the web 8. Manage department budget and supplies 9. Collaborate on research projects and other areas as assigned

Required Qualifications: 1. Bachelor's degree in a field where quantitative skills are required. 2. A high level of attention to detail is critical. Excellent organizational, communication and problem-solving skills are required. 3. Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with data management. Knowledge of Microsoft Office and SPSS (or other comparable statistical software) is essential. SPSS is preferred. Must be interested in learning new technologies 4. Strong analytical skills with the ability to analyze and determine the applicability of data to draw conclusions and make appropriate recommendations 5. Knowledge of higher education principles, practices and procedures required.

Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of educational research and higher education reporting requirements is preferred

Salary Range: $45,000 to $50,000
