Job Summary:

The Office Assistant VII (Student Employment Assistant), under the direction and supervision of the Student Employment Manager, is responsible for implementing the day-to-day operations of the Student Employment office. The Student Employment (SE) office facilitates the employment of USF students in on- and off-campus work opportunities that allow a student to earn wages and/or financial aid while pursuing educational and professional goals. Alongside SE office team members, the SE Assistant accomplishes this work by providing comprehensive administrative services, working closely with students, university colleagues, external agencies and visitors. The Assistant maintains awareness of local, state and national issues and laws that affect students and the University in relation to student employment. In partnership with the SE Manager, Assistant Director and Strategic Enrollment Management (SEM) division colleagues, the Assistant provides the highest quality student services.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Understand and engage the University’s Vision, Mission and Values in support of the Student Employment Office and SEM division.
  • Provide comprehensive administrative support for the Student Employment office, including interpreting and implementing the federal, state and institutional policies and procedures that govern USF student employment, documenting and communicating student eligibility for employment, and verifying employment history for current and former students.
  • Serve as a primary point of direct administrative contact and liaison with other offices, individuals, and external institutions and agencies.
  • Develop Student Employment procedures, methods and programs required for the operation of the Student Employment Office.
  • Responsible for electronically facilitating the establishment of student employment positions via the university’s management software client and student information system.
  • Under the direction of the Student Employment Manager, oversee the supervision and training of Student Employment office student assistants.
  • Act on behalf of the Manager, in the absence of the Assistant Director and Manager.
  • Contribute to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with a diverse population.
  • Perform other duties/projects as assigned.


Minimum Requirements:
  • Must be customer service and team oriented.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills
  • Ability to initiate action and discussion with peers inside and outside the university to bring about required changes
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision
  • Previous supervisory experience
  • Advanced experience working with computer database systems, word processing and spreadsheet software
  • Training or experience equivalent to five years of increasingly responsible work experience in a senior support role or related education
  • Post high school education preferred
  • Understanding of and commitment to USF’s Vision, Mission and Values
