Primary Function of Organization Unit: The Gen. Hugh Shelton Leadership Center was founded in 2002 following the retirement of Gen. Shelton as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff by Gen. Shelton as a means of "giving back" to his alma mater and to assist in the development of the next generation of values-based leaders. Center outreach programs focus on leadership development within corporate, governmental, educational, non-profit and youth development organizations. Gen. Shelton was greatly influenced by his childhood experiences within an "Extension family" and surrounded by citizen leaders who were committed to the ideals of positive youth development. The mission of the Center is: To inspire, educate, and develop values-based leaders committed to personal integrity, professional ethics, and selfless service. The Center focuses on intergenerational programming that validate the importance of youth/adult partnerships in program design and delivery. The core programs of the Center are: Youth leadership training (collegiate and high school); National Leadership Forums (corporate to student); leadership scholarship programs (inclusive of service learning and international experiential learning), and youth and adult agency outreach programs.

Essential Job Duties: Oversee and direct, under the supervision of the Associate Director, the leadership development programs provided to youth through the Shelton Leadership Challenge. Direct and implement the Shelton challenge staff selection process and administrative details in preparation for all sites. Lead the planning committee associated with the Shelton Challenge. Manage, with the Associate Director, on the development and delivery of leadership development training for the Center related to contracts and grant. Oversee the Shelton Challenge Franchise locations in coordination with the Franchise staff. Coordinate train-the-trainer modules to support the Shelton Challenge Franchise programs and other contracts and grants assigned. Organize registration implementation of the annual Shelton Forum that hosts internationally known leaders who can provide practical application in relation to current issues within leadership. Enhance the quality of program delivery provided to a minimum of 600 attendees for the Annual Shelton Leadership Forum hosted at NC State University. Research and develop proposals for potential fund development opportunities. Organize meetings in conjunction with programs and outreach resource/support for leadership development across campus and community. Provide supervision of summer interns whose expertise will assist to move the Center forward in its mission to develop intergenerational values-based leaders (i.e. research and grants, Shelton Challenge, etc.) Supervise temporary staff/instructors assisting in the planning, managing, and on-site delivery of the Shelton Center's Shelton Challenges in North Carolina. Co-Lead, with another Leadership Training Specialist, leadership training opportunities to participants (alumni) of the Shelton Challenge, such as the Mid-Year Conference.

Minimum Education/Experience: Master's degree or Bachelor's degree in the Human Services field and 2-4 years of experience within student personnel. Prior experience working with an intergenerational age population on leadership skills training, staff selection and multi-program coordination.

Department Required Skills: Skills as a trainer utilizing the cornerstones (Honesty, Integrity, Diversity, Compassion, and Social Responsibility) of the Shelton Challenge, and exposure in facilitating reflection. Must have skills to perform as a point of contact for planning and implementing leadership training, skilled in organizing and administrative details related to multi-program development and implementation; skilled at communicating and working with a diverse clientele.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: Prefer MS degree in Human Service field. Previous knowledge and exposure with the Shelton Challenge Program model and skills as a trainer utilizing the cornerstones of the Shelton Leadership Challenge. Experience with social media communications. Exposure in facilitating DEAL reflection process.

Necessary Licenses and Certifications: A valid drivers license is required for travel. NC drivers license required within 60 days of hire and must be maintained.
