Primary Function of Organization Unit: All North Carolina 4-H Camps are managed and operated under North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service through the College of Agriculture & Life Sciences (CALS) at North Carolina State University, one of two land-grant universities in the state. The North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service partners with communities to deliver education and technology that enrich the lives, land and economy of North Carolinians. Each Center is managed by a full-time Center Director and supported by Program Directors, Facility Maintenance Supervisors, Food Service Supervisors, and seasonal team members dedicated to providing safe and exceptional facilities, programs and services for the citizens of North Carolina.

Essential Job Duties: Position will have staff development responsibility and will provide leadership to the recruiting and selection of program staff for programs under his/her direction and responsible for summer and seasonal payroll information. Provide leadership for orientation, pre-service and in-service training for program staff and general staff development activities for program staff under his/her supervision. Provide on-going supervision, support and evaluation to the program staff in his her area through regular staff meetings and individual conferences. Develop schedules and assignments for program staff in cooperation with other program directors taking into consideration both direct program responsibilities and responsibilities to maintain facilities and equipment. Should provide training sessions for teachers, agents and volunteers in areas related to program leadership and expertise and in general support of the 4-H program. Provide support to training staff for other programs of the center and the statewide camping program. Position will have Program Design and Management responsibilities and will be expected to provide leadership for the development of age appropriate programs. North Carolina Cooperative Extension, Department of 4-H Youth Development and the America Camp Association guidelines will be utilized. Should acquire and maintain facilities and equipment necessary for program areas assigned within established budgets. Develops and updates, on a regular basis, a risk management plan that addresses risk associated with program areas under Director's leadership and institute necessary actions to manage risk within the program areas. Will work with Food Service and Maintenance supervisors to provide for special facility and support needs of user groups participating in programs under individual's leadership. Provide an effective means for evaluating and reporting on outcomes of the programs under his/her leadership. Assist in the development of annual budget for programs under their leadership and operate program within budget parameters adjusting budget to actual income. Position will serve as group leader and/or instructor when needed and scheduling allows and is responsible for all summer camp programs. Position has program marketing and user support duties and will be expected to provide leadership for the development of brochures and information pieces that accurately reflect the programs to which leadership is given. Serve as the primary contact for users by making contact with program coordinators (and where necessary, individuals) for programs in the area to which leadership is given after scheduling is confirmed and as needed to meet the groups programmatic needs, answer questions and provide support. Schedule and provide site visits with teachers and/or parents to further explain the program or help in the local program and marketing and design process. Design and man visual displays that assist the public and internal audiences fully understand the program areas for which leadership was given and keep an updated marketing slide show and/or video that accurately reflects the Center's programs under the individual's leadership. Position should develop and utilize approved social media outlets to promote the Center and communicate with staff. Position has center and program support and resource development responsibilities and will be expected to provide support for fund raising for the general support of the Eastern 4-H Educational Center and it's programs and to the Center Advisory Board and other pertinent committees. *This position is located in Columbia, NC.*

Minimum Education/Experience: A Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 3 years equivalent professional training and experience. Preference for degree in the areas of Education, Biology, Botany or any related field.

Department Required Skills: Applicant must have demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills, effective written and verbal communication skills, a commitment to diversity and the ability to work effectively with and through others. Must be flexible and highly motivated. Evidence of excellent interpersonal skills, team building, problem-solving ability, networking skills, and ability to work with diverse groups is necessary.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: Preferred certifications to include: Basic Low and High Challenge Course instructor, Red Cross-certified Lifeguard. Training or experience with: environmental education, outdoor education, experience in working with individuals with disabilities, and or experiential education. Recreation or Counseling preferred. Experience in working with young people; designing/developing curriculum and educational support materials; program assessment/evaluation; marketing; budget management; proposal development and managing grants are strongly desired. Organization, word processing/data management, and personnel hiring and management skills are also highly desirable. Master's degree preferred.

Necessary Licenses and Certifications: A valid drivers license is required for travel. NC drivers license required within 60 days of hire and must be maintained.
