Associate Provost for Graduate Studies and Research

General Summary of Responsibilities: Valdosta State University (VSU) seeks an accomplished, energetic, and visionary individual to serve as Associate Provost for Graduate Studies and Research. Reporting directly to the Provost, the Associate Provost will be responsible for a portfolio that includes the Graduate School, the Office of Sponsored Programs and Research Administration (OSPRA), International Studies, and Continuing Education. The Associate Provost for Graduate Studies and Research will work collaboratively with deans, department heads, faculty, staff, students, and leadership across the university to be responsible for the following: *Supporting the work of the Provost's Office; *Providing leadership and vision for the areas reporting to this position; *Working collaboratively with deans and departments to develop, implement, and nurture distinctive graduate programs in a variety of areas of importance to the state and the region; *Supervising the graduate admissions team, directing recruitment efforts, and overseeing the graduate assistantship program; *Chairing the Graduate Executive Committee (GEC) and overseeing graduate policies, procedures, and curriculum in consultation with the GEC; *Overseeing the Office of Sponsored Programs and Research Administration, working to ensure growth in successful grant writing and sponsored programs and assuring appropriate grant administration; *Collaborating with the deans and others in the Office of the Provost to advance the university's academic priorities and new Strategic Plan; *Providing leadership in the evaluation and professional development of personnel within the areas of responsibility; *Developing the budgets for the areas of responsibility and providing oversight for effective resource management; *Fostering a culture of transparent, clear, and consistent communication with faculty, staff and university and community partners; and *Performing other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications: *An earned doctorate or other terminal degree from an accredited university in a discipline represented at the university; *A record of excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service commensurate with appointment at the rank of full professor with tenure; *A strong record of progressively responsible and relevant university leadership experience, with a minimum of four years of experience at the department head or associate dean level or above and experience leading graduate program development and administration; *An awareness of current trends in higher education, especially in graduate education and a commitment to innovation in teaching and learning; *Exceptional organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills; *Significant and successful experience with external grant writing and other extramural funding; *A commitment to diversity and inclusion; *A commitment to shared governance and a consultative leadership style.
