Requisition Title: Assistant / Associate Professor - Academic Respirologist, Clinician-Scientist - 1800114
The Department of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine at University of Toronto and the University Health Network (UHN) Division of Respirology, in conjunction with the Toronto Lung Transplant Program and the Multi Organ Transplant Program, is seeking to recruit a full-time academic respirologist. The successful applicant should be eligible for a full-time clinical academic appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor at the University of Toronto. The candidate will have an academic position description of Clinician-Scientist and should have appropriate experience and track record or postgraduate training in cardio-pulmonary rehabilitation and frailty research, such that they will be able to develop and maintain an active clinical research program and qualify for a Scientist position at the Toronto General Research Institute. Effective start date of appointment is April 1, 2018, or as mutually agreed upon.
Candidates must hold an MD degree and should have, or be eligible for, certification in Respiratory Medicine by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO). A graduate degree relevant to clinical research or equivalent, and a proven academic record of clinical research are strong pre-requisites. The focus of the research should align with the scientific priorities of the Toronto Lung Transplant Program in rehabilitation medicine. The primary role of this position is to advance the understanding of frailty in our clinical and transplant programs. The successful applicant will also lead a strategy to improve outcomes in patients through knowledge translation and the development of innovative rehabilitation initiatives. Strong leadership skills are required to work with stakeholders at UHN and the community. Most of the individual's time will be committed to research activities. Clinical responsibilities include consultation and clinics in pulmonary medicine and interpretation of exercise studies. Preference will be given to individuals with an interest and demonstrated excellence in carrying out research, as demonstrated by publications in leading journals, presentations at significant conferences, awards and accolades.
Academic rank, salary and contractual arrangements will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate. Compensation will also depend upon the amount of clinical work performed but will be in the usual range for an experienced respirologist in the Province of Ontario at approximately $225,000 to $250,000 per year.
