The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences (SMHS) has an opening for a full-time Academic Advisor I. The successful candidate will possess outstanding interpersonal and customer service skills; flexibility and adaptability; a demonstrated ability to perform in a fast-paced, high volume environment; demonstrated ability to work with diverse clients and stakeholders; and possess a high level of detail orientation.

Duties include:
-Provide academic advising to students enrolled in online and hybrid programs related to program requirements, such as: explaining degree requirements, assisting in course planning, explaining academic policies, and registration information. Maintain up-to-date knowledge about programs and requirements. Inform students about alternatives, limitations and possible consequences of academic decisions (e.g. adding, dropping and withdrawing from courses; change of program, major and/or transfer institution). Audit and monitor student progress and provide counseling to support student timely program completion.

-Serve as primary point of contact for enrolled students in support in their student experience. Respond to student inquiries via email, in-person, and phone calls. Maintain student advising records.

-Provide general advising for prospective students related to program requirements, degree options. Assist students in the development of an educational plan including choosing a program of study and/or clarifying educational goals. Conduct transfer credit assessment for prospective students and current students. Advise students on transfer credit policies. Collaborate with admissions staff as needed to ensure accurate seamless handoff between admissions and enrollment for new students.

-Support planning and coordination of student events, including but not limited to: student orientation, open house/information sessions, student development and skills sessions, and Commencement activities.

-This position performs other duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
