Director, Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching

General Summary of Responsibilities: The Director will hold faculty rank and be eligible for tenure within a VSU academic department. This will be a 12-month position with a teaching responsibility of two courses (three credit hour equivalent) per academic year within the Director's academic field. To ensure a coordinated relationship among academic programs, faculty, and student support services, the Director will report to the Associate Provost. The Center will serve as a central resource for university-wide learning and teaching support and initiatives. Duties and Responsibilities: *Develop, implement, and assess pedagogical professional development programs across the university to accommodate the needs of both face-to-face and online instruction. o Survey faculty and relevant stakeholders for areas of interest and need in professional development. o Mentor faculty and academic support personnel. o Engage in pedagogical research projects. o Communicate regularly with the university community about internal and external professional development opportunities and grants relevant to learning and teaching. *Oversee the budget, strategic planning, and institutional reporting of the CELT. o Administer approved budget and authorize expenditures in accordance with established guidelines. o Develop annual reports on the costs, usage levels, and availability of all aspects of the CELT. o Collect and maintain data regarding faculty involvement, satisfaction, and use of services. o Seek outside funding to support goals and objectives of the CELT. *Establish and maintain relationships across the university to meet goals and objectives of the Center. o Convene and collaborate with the CELT Faculty Advisory Group. o Collaborate with other offices offering faculty development, including the Office of Employee and Organizational Development and Information Technology. *Serve on relevant university committees including the Council of Department Heads. *Support innovative teaching practices and encourage interdisciplinary collaboration among faculty. *Supervisory and leadership duties o Oversee VSU's team of instructional designers and provide leadership for distance learning initiatives, assuring quality of VSU's online courses and programs o Supervise and support CELT staff, CELT faculty and scholars, and CELT graduate assistants and manage CELT resources. *Represent VSU within the University System of Georgia (USG)-CTL consortium and engage in professional development within the system. Required Qualifications: *Earned doctorate or other terminal degree in a field represented in an academic department at the university, with a minimum of 6 years of college teaching experience. *Qualified for appointment in a department at the rank of Associate Professor or higher and eligible for tenure. *A sustained record of excellence in teaching in higher education, with a variety of teaching methods, including online. *Significant experience in faculty development and mentoring. *Knowledge of current pedagogical issues in higher education including current research, learning theory, best practices, and standards of excellence in higher education. *Recent history of publications and/or grants in the scholarship of learning and teaching.
