Sr Academic Advisor
The Senior Advisor is responsible for coordination and comprehensive quality-control of advising and services in the Office of Pre-Professional Health Studies (PPHS). PPHS provides support, advising and counseling for students who seek admission to Medical school as well as other types of health profession programs such as Dental, Pharmacy, Physician Assistant, Optometry, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Podiatry and Veterinary Medicine. The position is involved with all aspects of advising and includes the development, coordination and implementation of educational counseling services geared to achieving, maintaining or improving student success and placement into health professional school. The Senior Advisor meets regularly with students individually and in groups to discuss professional goals and evaluates approximately 200 applicants each year by critiquing student ePortfolios and helping draft committee letters of support. Reporting to the Director, the Senior Advisor is chartered to oversee the services provided to students and to mentor other advisors. This position is responsible for consistent data collection and assessment of students��� progress and continued development. The Senior Advisor represents the office at internal and external meetings and events and is active within the appropriate advising associations, including the National Association for Advisors in the Health Professions. Performs other duties as assigned. Required Education & Experience: Master���s degree and three or more years��� experience in higher education. At least two years advising experience in a higher education setting. Demonstrated leadership/project management experience. Experience with training design and/or delivery. Required Skills & Abilities: * Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills. * Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office Suite software programs, knowledge of student information systems, and willingness to learn other relevant software. * Proven ability to develop and conduct effective presentations for large group settings. * Demonstrated ability to maintain a consistently positive and objective student service approach even in challenging situations. * Proven ability to work effectively with diverse constituents, including students, parents, faculty, admissions officers, and administrative staff. * Demonstrated problem solving skills and ability to use independent judgment while also working as part of a team in a high-volume, fast-paced environment. * Proven project and time management skills, along with the ability to prioritize tasks and strong attention to detail. * Ability to work occasional evenings and/or weekends. Preferred: * Interest in and understanding of the admission standards and competencies for medical schools and health professional programs. * Knowledge of statistical database systems.
