Primary Function of Organization Unit: NC State University is a research powerhouse and a powerful economic engine for North Carolina. The Office of Technology Commercialization and New Ventures (OTCNV) plays a crucial role in this by protecting and promoting University research discoveries and intellectual property, working with and guiding industry partners, and promoting the acceleration of startups. We're driving economic growth by facilitating the commercialization of research discoveries.
Essential Job Duties: The OTCNV is seeking a New Ventures Associate to join its growing team. The New Ventures Associate performs the critical role of supporting and managing our existing partnerships and programs while seeking to build and support NC State's startup pipeline. Reporting to the acting/interim Executive Director of Technology Commercialization and New Ventures, this position will scout for startup opportunities, connect faculty with experienced entrepreneurs, advise startup companies on launch plans, and connect them with funding sources and mentors. This will also involve advising faculty on appropriate Conflict of Interest policies. Additionally, the New Ventures Associate position will build collaborative relationships with key entrepreneurial faculty and solicit invention disclosures in support of startup company formation. The Associate will also develop curriculum and online training events for faculty interested in engaging in a startup. This position will monitor and report the economic impact of startups. The New Ventures Associate position will maintain and further build existing collaborative relationships with key entrepreneurial organizations and be responsible for managing existing technology commercialization and new ventures programs, partnerships and relationships including: * National Science Foundation (NSF) I-Corps Site * Chancellor's Innovation Fund (CIF) Program * Executive-in-Residence (XIR) Program * R!OT Accelerator Partnership * Council for Entrepreneurial Development (CED) Venture Mentor Service (VMS) Partnership * Small Business Technology Development Center (SBTDC) Partnership * NC State's Alumni Entrepreneurs Network (AEN) Partnership * North Carolina Biotechnology Center (NCBC) Partnership * Wolfpack Investor Network (WIN) Partnership The New Ventures Associate position will be responsible for managing the New Ventures Analyst in support of these efforts.
Minimum Education/Experience: Require a post-baccalaureate credentials or a bachelor's degree plus alternative or equivalent professional training and experience. Requires at least two years of experience in technology transfer and venture development within a university setting. Degrees must be received from accredited institutions.
Department Required Skills: Candidates must have outstanding writing and communication skills. Must have familiarity with Adobe Suite of software products for rich media creation.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: Preferred candidates will also have experience with the SBIR/STTR programs. Video recording and editing experience is a plus.
