Duties: The associate editor facilitates the creation and publication of weekly issues of Almanac, Penn's journal of record, and assists with the monthly AT PENN calendar and periodic supplements. Deals with editorial, administrative and financial aspects of a weekly publication. Compiles and edits news and provides support to the editor in determining content and layout of issues and ensuring accuracy of published information. Collaborates with web editor to ensure a parallel representation of all materials on Almanac's website. Acts as the department's business administrator in a limited capacity. Responsible for recruiting, training and supervising work-study students. Must be able to handle the essential responsibilities of the editor or the web editor in the event of an unexpected or unavoidable absence. Must successfully meet deadlines. The person must be able to collaborate with other members of a small team and work in a collegial manner to ensure that the deadlines are met and the content is accurate.

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree; 3-5 years relevant experience is required. Ability to work collaboratively with minimal supervision as part of a small team under weekly deadline pressure in a time-sensitive environment. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Excellent proofreading skills, attention to detail, and ability to find and verify information. Must be proactive and perceptive in suggesting possible content for issues. Ability to handle multiple responsibilities in a timely manner is necessary. Must successfully complete BEN Financial training. Advanced computer skills, including hands-on experience with Adobe Creative Suite, especially InDesign and PhotoShop is essential and experience with a content based management system is desired. Experience at Penn is desired. Cover letter and resume required.
