The Department of Literatures, Cultures, and Languages at the University of Connecticut invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor In-Residence of German Studies, to participate actively in a large, vibrant, and innovative undergraduate and graduate German Studies program, dedicated to interdisciplinary work. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES

The successful candidate will be expected to share a deep commitment to effective instruction at the undergraduate and graduate levels and to the mentoring of students in their professional development. Successful candidates will be expected to broaden participation among members of under-represented groups; demonstrate through their activities the richness of diversity in the learning experience; integrate multicultural experiences into instructional methods and research tools; contribute to the development of pedagogical techniques designed to meet the needs of diverse learning styles and intellectual interests. The teaching load is seven courses per academic year, including German language courses at the beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels, and courses on German culture and society in inter- and cross-cultural perspectives to be taught in English. Responsibilities also include program development.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Native or near-native German proficiency, PhD in hand by August 2018; expertise in 19th through 21st–century German Studies and/or German as a Foreign Language (DaF), with documented excellence in teaching courses in the upper-division curriculum (English and German). Equivalent foreign degrees are acceptable. Candidates must have completed all the requirements for their doctoral degree by August 22, 2018.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Interest in German film, Second Language Acquisition, German for the professions (engineering, business), digital humanities, human rights, or German-Jewish Studies.

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a full-time, nine-month, non-tenure track position. Annually renewable, pending satisfactory performance. This position is at the main campus in Storrs but incumbents may work at the campuses located at Avery Point, Hartford, Stamford, Waterbury, and/or any other University location.
