The Department of Educational Leadership and Policies at the University of South Carolina is seeking applications for a full-time (9-month) tenure track position in K-12 Educational Leadership at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin August 2018. The Educational Leadership and Policies program at the University of South Carolina currently offers a M.Ed., Educational Specialists and Ph.D. program. K-12 leadership faculty members are recognized nationally and internationally for studies of school and district leadership, student access and transitions to higher education, policy, program evaluation, finance, and comparative education studies. The M.Ed. program and Ed.S. program focus on school and district leadership amidst policy changes and societal trends. The Ph.D. program features a focus on K-20 educational leadership in schools, districts, community colleges, and universities as societal institutions. Faculty members are committed to social justice and provide leadership preparation grounded in social foundations, history, law, economics, leadership theory and organizational theory.
The successful candidate will join a dynamic and diverse faculty and will be expected to: (1) establish a rigorous and ongoing research agenda in the field of educational leadership appropriate for a research intensive institution; (2) teach educational leadership courses face to face and/or online in areas such as school level administration, educational theory, and various disciplines of school building and central office leadership (3) serve on departmental, college and university level committees: (4) provide advisement and research mentoring to graduate students pursuing a M.Ed., Educational Specialists or Ph.D. in Educational Leadership.Required Education and Experience
Applicants must have (1) an earned doctorate in Educational Administration or closely related field by August 2018, (2) evidence of or potential for a focused and relevant research agenda in educational leadership, (3) expertise in advanced quantitative and/or qualitative research methods (4) commitment to work with a diverse student population including those working in areas of poverty (5) a commitment to practices embedded in social justice, inclusion and equity via service, research and/or teaching congruent with university values and 6) the ability to work cooperatively in a humanistic, transparent and collaborative environment.Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to applicants with (1) experience as a school level or central office administrator in a K-12 setting (2) experience teaching graduate level courses in educational leadership (3) experience in online instruction (4) demonstrated experience in mentoring graduate student research (5) evidence of or capacity for obtaining external funding.
