Job Description:

The School of Sciences and Engineering at the American University in Cairo has an opening for one faculty position within its Construction Engineering Department at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor.

As part of his/her teaching responsibilities, the successful candidate will contribute to teaching and research in the undergraduate major and graduate degrees, inclusive of interdisciplinary masters and PhD programs. In addition, the successful candidate will be encouraged to develop and/or teach course(s) in his/her area of expertise. The School is home to programs in Natural Sciences and Engineering. The School is also home to programs in Nanotechnology, Biotechnology, Environmental Sustainability, and Environmental Engineering. Five centers are housed in the School. In addition, the School and University are embarking on initiatives that focus on community engagement in health and safety, including environmental assessment, to complement its ongoing activities in global health, environmental quality and sustainability.

The successful candidate for this position is expected to be active or capable of developing research and provide services in his/her field of specialization.

The successful candidate should have teaching and research experience in the areas of environmental engineering with focus on water resources and quality, as well as wet utilities engineering. The selected candidate should be able to carry out research and supervise theses in water quality studies, assessment and remediation of hazardous sites, water quality management of open bodies and industrial establishments, and management of water-environmental safety and hazards. The selected candidate is expected to teach engineering courses in his/her area of expertise and contribute to the graduate environmental engineering, built environment and environmental assessment.


Requirements:

All candidates for the position above must hold a doctoral degree and experience related to the field cited above (Environmental/Water Engineering). He/she should have a demonstrated track-record of practice, teaching and/or research. A solid record of professional practical experience and established record in attracting funded research and scholarship is highly desirable. We seek applicants who are enthusiastic about their profession and undergraduate and graduate education with classroom and/or laboratory teaching experience, and are highly motivated researchers capable of leading a project and training students with passion and enthusiasm. Translational experience beyond the didactic is highly desirable, as are demonstrable evidence of interdisciplinary interests and collaboration.
