The Department of Elementary and Special Education in the College of Education invites applications and nominations for the position of Assistant Professor of Elementary Science Education.

In January 2017, the University System of Georgia Board of Regents voted to consolidate Armstrong State University and Georgia Southern University. The new, 27,000-student university will be named Georgia Southern University with campuses in Savannah, Statesboro, and Hinesville. Position Description. Reporting to the Chair of the Department of Elementary and Special Education, the Assistant Professor of Elementary Science Education position will be housed on the Statesboro campus and requires teaching, service, and research responsibilities, as well as a terminal degree. The Assistant Professor of Elementary Science Education is expected to teach science methods courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels and other elementary education courses based on the needs of the department; supervise and assist with field experiences; collaborate with faculty across the College of Education; serve as a member of Ed.S. and Ed.D. committees; and perform service to the department, college, university, and professional communities. Additional responsibilities include maintaining an active research agenda, including regular publications, professional presentations, and/or external grant proposals; modeling effective teaching practices; and using instructional technology, including internet course delivery software. The position is a 10-month, tenure-track appointment, and the salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Required Qualifications:
• Earned doctorate in Elementary Education, Science Education, Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in Science Education, or a closely related field by August 1, 2018
• Minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in science content and/or science pedagogy coursework
• Minimum of three years of full-time teaching experience in grades P-5
• A focused program of research and scholarship related to elementary (P-5) education, science education, or Critical Pedagogy
• Must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of employment without assistance from the institution

Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience working with a diverse faculty and student body
• A demonstrated commitment to Critical Pedagogy
• Experience teaching science in grades P-8, with preference given to P-5
• Demonstrated effectiveness in using technology in instruction, including experience teaching online courses
• Experience with school-university partnerships, supervision of student teachers and/or practicum students, and knowledge of and experience with edTPA
• Involvement in professional educational organizations at the local, state, or national level
