Primary Function of Organization Unit: The University Benefits Office of North Carolina State University administers statutory and voluntary benefit programs, as authorized by the General Assembly of North Carolina, the Office of State Human Resources, and the University Group Insurance and Benefits Committee for over 9000 faculty and staff employees. The University Benefits office is responsible for managing the overall design, administration, communication, implementation and maintenance of benefit programs. In addition to health/welfare and retirement benefits, the University Benefits office also has responsibility of directing many other support programs such as Leave Administration.
Essential Job Duties: The Leave Administration Consultant serves as a senior/lead assuming a high level of accountability and strategic responsibility for leave programs. Responsibilities include: oversight of many of the leave processes performed, handling complex cases requiring seasoned expertise and in depth knowledge; taking a lead in helping to train consultants and web leave coordinators across campus and other new team members; handling administration of benefits related items in accordance with University policies and procedures for all leave programs to include: leave of absences, FMLA and disability; reviewing and processing Qualifying Life Events; and managing the University Web Leave System (WolfTime).
Department Required Skills: Strong knowledge of federal and state leave laws and entitlements including FMLA, ADA, and workers' compensation. Strong computer skills required with a proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel & PowerPoint, or similar software) and HRIS Systems including analysis, system and user testing, query, problem resolution and planning. Solid knowledge of the IRS code, DOL rules, and state regulations as they apply to benefits, retirement, and leave programs. Demonstrated ability to work effectively within and across various departments on complex projects. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Demonstrated experience communicating and supporting customers across multiple tiers of the organization effectively. Ability to multi-task and see projects through to completion. Basic ability to understand and interpret multiple plans documents, policies, procedures, legal requirements, and benefits and leave plan concepts.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: At least three years of direct applicable benefits and leave administration work experience preferred. Experience with PeopleSoft. Knowledge of North Carolina State regulations. Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) a plus. PHR/SPHR preferred. CEBS or CBP certification preferred.
