General Description of Position:

The Agronomy Department at Kansas State University is looking for a Research Associate to conduct research leading to the implementation of genomic selection in the wheat breeding program, with a focus on yield, Fusarium head blight resistance and quality traits. This person will be expected to work in an interdisciplinary, collaborative manner with the wheat genetics and pathology programs, as well as the USDA-ARS Manhattan team to conduct research and implement strategies that apply DNA marker technology and high throughput phenotyping to wheat improvement.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

PhD in Agronomy or equivalent field. Experience in wheat breeding program or equivalent. Experience with the R statistical package and programs necessary for genome wide association analyses and implementation of genomic selection in plant breeding programs.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference for knowledge of Fusraium head blight (FHB) resistance in wheat and standard FHB phenotyping practices. Excellent communication and organizational skills are also strongly preferred

Physical activities: Speaking, walking/running, keyboarding, sitting, standing, carrying, driving, squatting and writing. Environmental conditions: Normal office environment, mechanical hazards, vibration, dust/fumes, noise, weather extremes, moving machinery/heavy equipment, near-continuous use of video display terminal and chemicals.

Salary Range / Pay Rate:
