Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties below are representative of the duties of the classification and are not intended to cover all of the duties performed by the incumbent(s) of any particular position. 1. Teach a variety of Kinesiology (fitness) activity and lecture courses

2. Serve as Football Coach, including duties such as recruitment and retention of student athletes, organization of schedules and practices, oversight of football budget, coordination of transportation for away games, direction of conditioning program, and motivation of student athletes to achieve academic success

3. Create, manage and implement a year-round strength and conditioning program

4. Comply with California Community College Athletics Association (CCCAA) Rules and Regulations that govern intercollegiate athletics for California Community Colleges as well as the Northern California Football Conference (NCFC) rules and regulations

5. Develop new curriculum and modes of instruction in kinesiology

6. Serve on division, college, district, and League or Conference committees

7. Participate in professional development activities

8. Attend League, NCFC, and CCCAA meetings

9. Direct public relations and fund-raising activities in support of the football program and the athletic program in general

10. Establish relationships with San Mateo County high school coaches, contiguous district coaches, media, and businesses

11. Establish and maintain linkages with other college departments to assist in the coordination of each student’s academic program and with four-year institutions to assist student athlete transfer

12. Perform other duties as required by contract, collective bargaining agreement, and general institutional needs

13. Recruit, train, and oversee a staff of assistant football coaches

The college offers day, evening, and weekend classes, and faculty may be required to teach during any of these.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Master’s degree or above in kinesiology, physical education, exercise science, education with an emphasis in physical education, physiology of exercise, or adaptive physical education OR Bachelor’s degree in any of the above AND Master’s degree in any life science, dance, physiology, health education, recreation administration, or physical therapy OR a fully-satisfied (Life) California Community College Instructor’s Credential in physical education (California credentials were no longer issued after July 1, 1990) OR the equivalent• Demonstrated cultural competence, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff• Possession of a valid California Driver’s License (or ability to obtain one)

Degree Equivalence

The applicant possesses a degree(s) with similar content to those listed for the relevant discipline. The name of the degree is close to that specified on the Disciplines List but the degree either has a different title or area of expertise or the coursework is slightly different.

Academic Background Equivalence

Related to disciplines in which a Master’s Degree is not generally expected or available. The applicant must have completed at least 24 semester units of coursework in the academic field and must possess at least the equivalent level of achievement and the equivalent in breadth, depth of understanding, and rigor in each of the following:

i) a broad cultural education usually met by the general education requirements for any Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree, and

ii) a detailed study of the discipline in breadth, depth, and rigor, usually met by course work required for the degree major.

Professional Achievement Equivalence

The applicant must have completed the General Education requirements for that degree and show evidence of outstanding professional achievement and/or substantial training in the requested field. The applicant must submit substantial evidence, which demonstrates that his/her preparation, teaching experience, work experience, and ability are equivalent to those expected from a person who meets the minimum qualifications.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
The screening committee will select for interview candidates from among those applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum requirements, give evidence of any or all of the following:

1. Successful experience coaching a college, professional, or high school football program

2. Experience in teaching or ability to teach in a varied kinesiology program

3. Ability to use innovative teaching methods that engage students actively on their own

4. Ability to use strategies designed for diverse learning styles and academic goals

5. Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with other faculty and staff

6. Ability to establish close relationships with local high school programs

7. Demonstrated ability to create and implement a yearly recruiting plan for in-district, contiguous districts, and first contact student-athletes

8. Demonstrated skill in writing reports and program information

9. Computer skills, including word processing, electronic mail, spreadsheet, and database applications

10. Ability to work with the media and establish public relations

11. Demonstrated knowledge of current literature on football and athletic administration

12. Prior experience as a defensive coordinator, offensive coordinator, or head football coach

13. Training in the most up-to-date, high level football strategies, and the ability to implement them

14. Knowledge of CCCAA Constitution and Bylaws and NCAA transfer requirements

15. Skill in respectful, tactful and sensitive interaction with people who are diverse in their academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds
