The Department of Theatre at Albion College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Scenic Design for our undergraduate BA Theatre program, beginning August 2018.

Albion's Department of Theatre equally emphasizes a rigorous classroom environment and an ambitious production season dedicated to professional values. The department offers a BA in Theatre, with specializations available in Acting/Directing, Design/Technology, and Stage Management, in addition to a Minor. The production season includes 4 main-stage productions per academic year in a traditional 200-seat proscenium theatre as well as a flexible 2-story black box theatre. See for more information about our department.

The ideal candidate will have a Master of Fine Arts (M.F.A.) in design and a significant professional resume and/or collegiate teaching experience. We seek a colleague who is a teaching artist in the purest sense committed to teaching in a liberal arts college with a diverse student body. He or she will be equal parts creator and mentor; someone with the skill set and versatility of a theatre generalist, filtered through the lens of a designer. This is an opportunity to be a core creative faculty member in a rapidly growing department. Candidates will be expected to teach a 3/3 load in subjects such as Basic Design Theory, Introductory Scenic Design, Scenic Painting, Props Construction, Introduction to Theatre, or other areas of expertise. Design responsibilities include four main-stage productions per academic year (two proscenium and two black box). Course releases will be granted for design work. Candidates may also contribute occasional interdisciplinary classes to the wider college community.

Application Process:

Interested candidates should submit an online application including CV, copies of graduate and undergraduate transcripts, a statement of teaching philosophy, applicable portfolio/website information, and three letters of recommendation through Interfolio at

Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.

Please contact Zach Fischer (, Chair, Department of Theatre for questions about the position or search.
