RESOURCE TECHNOLOGIST A, RESEARCH QC
Duties: The Gene Therapy Program (GTP) is entering a new era of unprecedented opportunity with great potential to reshape the face of medicine as we know it. Our discoveries have set the stage for successful treatments and possibly even cures for devastating genetic diseases.
The laboratory of Dr. Jim Wilson, at GTP of the University of Pennsylvania has been a leader in the development of innovative vector technology for close to three decades. We have emerged as the 'go-to' organization for public and private partners, who want to participate in the gene therapy space. Currently we are positioned to lead another round of vector innovation and establish pre-clinical and clinical proof-of-concept in therapeutic applications of in-vivo genome editing.
Our Vector Core is a state-of-the-art facility which provides vector-related materials and services in support of basic and translational research worldwide.
The Vector Core is looking to add a Resource Technologist A(RTA) to the Research Quality Control (QC) group.
As an RTA, you will support preclinical translational research projects, conducting and qualifying quality control assays to determine the quality, quantity and potency of viral-based vectors, while following established protocols or standard operating procedures. You will also participate in technology transfer of new assays to contract manufacturing labs. In this role, you will report to the Associate Director of Research QC and interact closely with the GLP QC, assay development and vector manufacturing groups at GTP.
The assays and techniques that are frequently used in genome titer determination include; infectivity, biodistribution, in vivo potency assays, endotoxin, purity assays and rcAAV are Mammalian Cell/Tissue Culture, qPCR, cell based potency assays, ELISA, western blots and gels.
Qualifications: * Bachelor's of Science in Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology, Virology, or a related field and 0 to 1 year of relevant laboratory experience required.
* Mammalian Cell/Tissue culture experience strongly preferred
* Experience conducting qPCR assays is preferred
* Experience conducting non-PCR based assays, such as western analysis and potency assays, is a plus.
* Ability to work as part of a team
* Excellent oral/written communication skills required
