Assistant Professor, Animation (Game Art)
Columbus College of Art and Design (CCAD) is seeking a faculty experienced with game art to join its growing Animation program. The ideal candidate will be a leader in using virtual reality and must be proficient in Unreal and/or Unity. The project-based curriculum is rooted in leveraging technology in-support of the story and is designed to provide exposure to 2D, 3D, experimental, VFX, and game art assets. With over 200 students, collaboration is key within the department and with other areas such as first-year CORE studies, Illustration, and Industrial Design. The successful candidate will demonstrate a deep understanding of game art & VR with fundamental roots in 2D, 3D, and experimental animation storytelling. Candidates must demonstrate an active and diverse professional network and the willingness to maintain and grow these networks as a faculty member.


The successful candidate will work with all levels of students at the undergraduate level. Primary teaching will focus on junior and senior students as they design, prototype, and implement their game art pipeline projects and VR experiences. In addition, the position will occasionally lead a group-project course called Animation Lab Team a studio simulator course where students are placed into leadership and crew roles as they work together to complete one project in 16-weeks. Experience with game-jams, hack-a-thons, and VR competitions (active participation or encouraging student engagement in such activities) is preferred.


The successful candidate will demonstrate an interest in teaching at the graduate level as a mentor in CCAD's MFA in Visual Arts New Projects program with students working in animation. Candidates should demonstrate their ability to work in a collaborative environment. In addition, the candidate will possess the ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.

Qualifications: Terminal degree in Animation or related field, professional experience and minimum three years of college level teaching experience preferred.

Animation labs are equipped with WACOM Cintiqs and industry standard software.
