Assistant Director of Student Experience

The Assistant Director of Student Experience supports the mission and strategic plan of the University by providing resources and services that complement the academic experience at NLU. The Assistant Director provides consistent leadership of new student orientation, orientation leaders, and first year experience activities, and also assists with compliance efforts related to student behavior. Additionally, the Assistant Director will expand services to respond to student homelessness, food insecurity, and campus inclusion.The Assistant Director reports directly to the Director of Student Experience and serves as a key member of the Student Experience team.
• Serves on the student conduct hearing board and assists the student conduct hearing officer by following up and responding to behavior incidents on campus. Serves as the Deputy Title IX coordinator, assisting with incident intakes, coordinating interim measures, and following up with misconduct reports;
• Facilitates a seamless summer orientation program for undergraduate students. Successfully onboards, trains, and supervises the orientation leader program. Supervises a NODA/Student Affairs intern. Maintain quarterly online orientation through the management of the online course and coordinate all content updates;
• Productively assists with all Student Experience events and programming.
• Implements and executes annual One Book One NLU program through the selection of the text, distribution and promotion, and annual programming;
• Expands wraparound services to support student homelessness, food insecurity, and diversity/inclusion issues.

• Experience in coaching and building student confidence and engagement
• Capable of spending the time needed to learn about each student and understand their individual interests and concerns
• Establishes and communicates ground rules with students in order to mitigate disruptive behavior
• Minimum of 5-7 years working in Student Affairs, including behavior intervention or advising, first year experience or orientation, and student life.
• Some experience working with highly diverse, non-traditional student populations
• Knowledge and understanding of student programming and event planning
• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience working with federal and state requirements for sexual misconduct enforcement and behavior intervention
• Bachelor’s Degree required preferably in Student Affairs, Student Personnel, Higher Education or Adult Education
