Primary Function of Organization Unit: The Golden LEAF Biomanufacturing Training and Education Center (BTEC) is a unique, cross-disciplinary instructional center that provides educational and training opportunities to develop skilled professionals for the biomanufacturing industry. BTEC's audience includes NCSU students and working professionals already involved in biomanufacturing or related industries. BTEC also provides bioprocess development and analytical services to a wide range of customers from academia and industry.

Essential Job Duties: The Senior Scientist will develop and/or deliver courses on biomanufacturing topics to industry professionals, especially as related to our new Gene Therapy training program. In addition, the Senior Scientist will develop, validate and execute assays in support of BTEC's Analytical Services program. Senior Scientists are expected to seek out and write proposals for grants, publish/present, and gain recognition outside of BTEC. Primary responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to the following: * Development, validation and execution of assays (e.g., Western blot, qPCR, LAL, ELISA, SDS-PAGE) in support of BTEC's biomanufacturing processes and BTEC's bioprocess and analytical services program. * Develop and deliver short courses to industry professionals. Specific subject matter topics include, but are not limited to, assays and assay development (e.g., titer, purity and identity of biomolecules) in support of manufacturing of gene therapy products and protein therapeutics. * Deliver courses to NC State students on topics related to assay execution and assay development for various biopharmaceutical products. * Conduct and/or provide planning support to projects under BTEC's bioprocess or analytical services program or projects that are internal to BTEC. * Communicate as needed to service providers, clients, and collaborators within and outside the university. * Write grant proposals that provide funding for analytical technology development, educational initiatives, etc. * Publish and/or present. * Gain local (within the state) recognition. * Provide leadership to BTEC, particularly in the areas of assay development and molecular biology. * Actively promote BTEC locally (within NC). * Perform any other tasks/responsibilities assigned by supervisor.

Minimum Education/Experience: * M.S.* in life science (biochemistry, chemistry, microbiology, or related discipline) with 5 years of relevant experience * Expertise in assay development and/or molecular biology as related to biopharmaceutical applications. * Experience that led to successful completion of an assay development project. *Required degree must be completed prior to start date.

Department Required Skills: * Proficiency with MS Office suite, specifically MS Word, MS Excel, and PowerPoint. * Good written and verbal communication skills, and particularly the ability to present information clearly and concisely in oral and written form. * Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work with students from the university and from industry. * Ability to work independently and as a team member. * Knowledge of laboratory safety and biosafety practices.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: * Ph.D. in life science (biochemistry, chemistry, microbiology, or related discipline) with 2 years of relevant experience * Prior experience in teaching industry short courses * Prior experience in teaching at the college level.
