Vice President for Enrollment and Marketing
Notre Dame of Maryland University (NDMU) is a private, catholic university established in 1895 with the mission to educate leaders to transform the world. NDMU is home to Maryland’s only women’s college, and offers a wide variety of co-educational full-time and part-time undergraduate, graduate, doctoral, and certificate programs. The University enrolls approximately 2,500 students and has Schools of Arts, Sciences and Business; Education; Nursing; and Pharmacy. Additionally, the University offers programs for adult students online and at several additional locations across the state. NDMU is located on a beautiful 58-acre wooded campus in the northern Baltimore, Maryland residential neighborhood of Homeland.
NDMU seeks a Vice President for Enrollment Management and Marketing (VPEM). Reporting to the President, this chief enrollment officer will oversee the areas of Undergraduate and Graduate Admission, Financial Aid, and Marketing, and provide inspirational and practical leadership in the development, direction, implementation, and evaluation of a diverse portfolio of enrollment programs within the university. The new vice president will build on recent success which includes an increase in the enrollment of the Women’s College in fall of 2017 and an increase in the retention rate to 81%.
Under the direction of the President, the VPEM will advance the university’s mission through the successful oversight of full-time and part-time undergraduate and graduate admissions, marketing, and financial aid. The position partners collaboratively with the Deans and Directors to set data-informed enrollment projections and to implement comprehensive strategies to achieve and maintain optimum enrollment goals. The selected candidate will also work collaboratively with senior administrators as a member of the President’s Cabinet; in addition, they will work with Board of Trustees, directors, and mid-level management staff to achieve enrollment management goals.
Furthermore, the VPEM assesses needs, develops assessment criteria, and strategic and operations plans, and determines procedures for all aspects of new student enrollment growth for the institution. The Vice President plans and organizes the administration of the functional areas of the enrollment management offices; collects, analyzes, and presents data needed for policy implementation, decision-making, and project/program development; prepares comprehensive reports, proposals, and presentations; and ensures planning for key committees and board meetings.
The New Vice President will:
- Oversee and direct all operations, programs, services, and activities of the Enrollment Management Division, and provide leadership and managerial oversight through regular meetings with enrollment management directors;
- Develop and implement data-informed recruitment and marketing plans and strategies through strategic marketing and admissions processes to influence prospective student decisions to enroll;
- Direct efforts to achieve enrollment goals in all areas by analyzing key qualitative and quantitative data, engaging with community stakeholders, and monitoring performance indicators of all staff members;
- Assess admissions criteria and oversee admissions decisions that further the university’s enrollment goals;
- Develop enrollment projections for all degree granting programs in collaboration with the Deans and Directors, in alignment with the Strategic Planning & Budget Committee process;
- Initiate, maintain and refine data collection and analysis processes that will assist in evaluating recruitment, admissions procedures, financial aid, marketing events and enrollment management strategies;
- In conjunction with the Director of Financial Aid, develop, oversee, and refine the University’s financial aid matrix and strategies for the optimum utilization of financial aid funds to maximize net tuition revenue and student yield, and minimize the tuition discount rate;
- Lead the Strategic Enrollment and Marketing Committee(s), an interdivisional effort to integrate enrollment and program planning, marketing strategy and projections for all of the University’s undergraduate and graduate degree-granting programs;
- In collaboration with the Provost, support the collection and analysis of retention data and other metrics, and coordinate the development of intentional programmatic initiatives, interventions, and services that positively impact the recruitment, retention and enrichment of students;
- Administer and oversee all aspects of the Enrollment Management operating budget, including salary management;
- Develop and retain a strong team of enrollment professionals;
- Participate in and contribute to the strategic, operational and budget planning processes of the university;
- Maintain up-to-date strategic and operational policies, procedures, and practices for the enrollment management areas in alignment with current and emerging industry best practices; and
- Assure policies, procedures, and practices are in accordance with state and federal laws and regulations, and the university’s goals and objectives.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of seven (7) years of professional work experience in higher education (private college or university preferred) in an administrative or supervisory capacity with evidence of progressively increasing responsibility. The successful candidate will possess a demonstrated ability to engage in strategic planning, data and trend analysis, and program development. Additionally, they will have significant experience in developing and implementing complex enrollment management activities, including undergraduate and graduate admissions and recruitment, financial aid, and strategic marketing. An advanced degree in a related field from an accredited college or university is strongly preferred; a Bachelor’s degree is required.
In addition, the VPEM should have the following skills and characteristics:
- Demonstrated administrative and management adeptness, along with strong leadership and an ability to mentor a motivated staff;
- Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to effectively represent the university with external and internal audiences and stakeholders;
- Strong initiative and ability to devise solutions to complex problems and effectively manage multiple long-term and short-term strategies, programs, and objectives;
- Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of students;
- An appreciation and commitment to the history, values and mission of NDMU;
- Liberal use of independent judgment and discretion in decision-making to make seasoned business judgments and offer sound guidance on priorities, issues and directions;
- Strong confidence and sense of self with a sense of humor to balance it all;
- Knowledge and experience with computer-based admissions tracking software (Ellucian CRM Recruit), Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access), and other applicable technologies.

This past spring, NDMU completed highly successful accreditation visits in Business (Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs), Nursing (Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education), and at the University overall (Middle States Commission on Higher Education).
Over 84% of the faculty hold doctorates or a terminal degree in their field; and the undergraduate student to faculty ratio is 7 to 1.
