Indiana Wesleyan University College of Arts and Sciences seeks a faculty member with specialization in Music Therapy and related areas to serve in the Division of Music.  An appropriate terminal degree (or near completion of such degree) is required. Applicant should be a Board Certified Music Therapist and a member in good standing with the American Music Therapy Association. At least three years of clinical experience with various populations is required. Special consideration will be given to applicants who have expertise in one or more of the following areas: double reeds, saxophone, voice, aural skills, music appreciation, and/or choral conducting.  The ideal candidate will possess an outstanding record of teaching, scholarship, and service, as well as dedication to the ideals of liberal learning and an educational philosophy based on the centrality of Jesus Christ and the integration of faith and learning.

Start date will be Fall 2018 pending funding.


  • Master’s degree in Music Therapy

  • National board certification(MT-BC)


The successful candidate will teach undergraduate music therapy courses in a variety of topics as assigned.  Additionally, this individual will serve as the Clinical Placement Supervisor, coordinating all efforts related to clinical placements for Music Therapy students.

Minimum qualifications include: 

  • Master’s degree in Music Therapy

  • Three years of full-time or equivalent part-time clinical experience in Music Therapy

  • National board certification(MT-BC)

  • Supervision experience in music therapy

  • Professional competency on piano and guitar, with advanced competency on at least one of the two as established in the American Music Therapy Association Advanced Competencies

  • Working knowledge of varied music therapy approaches (e.g., psychodynamic, music-centered, behavioral, client-centered, humanistic)

  • Higher education teaching experience in the field of Music Therapy

    Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience supervising undergraduate music therapy students

  • Experience working with students or clients with diverse backgrounds

  • Ability to work as a team member toward shared goals

    Aggressive student recruitment and active contribution to the excellence of the Music Therapy faculty are important and expected.
