Manager of Alumni Relations and Annual Giving - Summary
Develop and maintain relationships with the Humphrey School of Public Affairs faculty and administrative and center staff in order to create and maintain pathways for alumni engagement.
Serving as an ambassador, the Manager of Alumni Relations and Annual Giving is charged with securing commitments from alumni to provide professional expertise and volunteer service; collaborating with colleagues in the administrative offices (including, but not limited to Admissions, Development, Public Affairs and Student Affairs) and the schools to create and maintain pathways for alumni participation that advance the goals of the Institute; partnering with Development colleagues to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward alumni giving; and serving as a liaison between the Alumni Association Board of Directors and the academic and administrative leadership.
Alumni Management and Alumni-focused Relationship Building 20%
Identify, recruit, and develop relationships with alumni to promote involvement in alumni initiatives.
Organize and manage volunteers for Humphrey School Alumni Board activities related to recruitment and orientation of new members, receptions, events, alumni day of service, mentoring, fundraising, and other alumni board activities.
Serve as an ex-officio member and attend alumni board and committee meetings, and provide/manage staff support at meetings and all alumni board functions.
Serve as co-leader of Alumni Mentor Program, staff the alumni mentor recruitment committee, recruit alumni mentors and help with matching, and other Mentor Program and Career & Professional Services related activities.
Engage Humphrey School alumni regionally with University of Minnesota Alumni Association (UMAA) networks and make one-on-one connections for networking, informational, relocation, and job search purposes.
Alumni Program Development and Delivery 20%
Develop annual and long-term strategic plans that connect alumni and build their affinity with the Humphrey School of Public Affairs, with particular attention to recent graduates and alumni outside of the Twin Cities Area.
Implement programmatic initiatives to enhance involvement opportunities across the alumni network.
Serve as primary liaison between UMAA, Humphrey School, and the alumni board to ensure mutual understanding and support of each organization's priorities and programs.
Alumni Communications, Recognition, and Stewardship 15%
Identify outstanding alumni worthy of Humphrey School, University, or UMAA recognition thorough various awards programs, driving nomination calendar and process in cooperation with the Humphrey School's Honors and Awards Committee and the UMAA.
Write and coordinate general alumni communications and email invitations, in additional to coordinating, managing, and developing content for the monthly alumni e-newsletter.
Coordinate with communications team to develop content, and manage and execute social media strategy to support alumni engagement; manage content for the alumni portion of the Humphrey School's website.
Co-plan and execute the annual Fellowship Recognition Breakfast and execute a thank-you campaign by student fellowship and scholarship recipients for stewardship, acknowledgment, and communications purposes.
Strategize effective alumni stores and venues for communicating and sharing in partnership with the Humphrey School administrative support teams.
Annual Giving 25%
Serve as primary liaison between the Humphrey School and the University of Minnesota Foundations (UMF) for annual fundraising appeals, drafting messages, and special appeals.
Provide training and information about the Humphrey School for UMF telemarketers and other staff on an ongoing basis.
Manage and recruit new members of the Leadership Circle, the Humphrey School's $1,000+ annual donors, and work with Major Gifts Officer to move them into the pipeline for major giving.
Manage a portfolio of alumni prospects for annual giving and identify those with potential and propensity to be major donors to the Humphrey School.
Identify and make personal connections with Major Gifts Officer to top alumni prospects.
Provide opportunities and activities for Development staff to connect and meet with alumni on an ongoing basis.
Coordinate and direct an Alumni Development Campaign Committee in partnership with Major Gifts Officer to signification increase alumni giving to the Humphrey School in in relation to the University-wide campaign.
Event Planning and Execution 10%
Plan and coordinate Humphrey School alumni programs, events, and receptions, including evening, weekend, and out-of-state events, in coordination with other Humphrey School administrative support teams.
Support, plan, and develop Humphrey School-wide events and programming across departments and at the direction of the Dean's Office.
Alumni Services Administration and Data Oversight 10%
Report on progress and challenges in annual and long-term goals, and assists in budget, personnel, and program development matters.
Annual develop and manage a detailed budget request for alumni relations operations to serve alumni and build affinity toward the Humphrey School.
Manage alumni querying process and ensure data integrity for the University's DMS database as well as for data in the Humphrey School's SLM database.
Oversee standards for data privacy and integrity, as well as tracking systems for measuring alumni engagement metrics with the Humphrey School.
Co-lead with Communications team to ensure data integrity and correct implementation for policies and procedures around email communications for the Humphrey School's main constituencies.
BA/BS degree, plus three years of progressive responsibility in alumni relations/advancement operations, or a combination of experience in a closely related field.
Experience with direct mail solicitations and individual giving.
Ability to identify opportunities for population segmentation and relationship-building through development of creative and innovative programming.
Client-focused responsiveness demonstrated through direct person-to-person relationship management.
Experience with volunteer board management.
Ability to develop, communicate, and execute strategies with measurable results.
Experience with diverse constituent groups (age, race, gender, socio-economic, life experiences, perspective).
Master's degree and experience in alumni relations, public policy, or related fields.
Experience in event planning and student services.
Enthusiasm for the Humphrey School mission and for personal engagement with Humphrey School alumni as well as the School and other activities importune to alumni relations work.
