Posting Summary:
The University of Virginia Arts & Sciences Department of Psychology invites applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Human Neuroscience. The appointment begins with the fall term of 2018, with an anticipated start date of July 25, 2018.

We are seeking a candidate that embodies an interdisciplinary approach in the study of Human Neuroscience, with a research program that incorporates one or more of cognitive, developmental, clinical, or computational approaches to link neural mechanisms to cognition and behavior. Candidates will have proven success, as measured by a strong publication record, in any subdomain of human neuroscience, such as memory, perception, attention, language, emotion, or decision-making. We also welcome applicants who would take advantage of the synergy among researchers of epigenetics, biological changes of the lifespan and human development, and fundamental neuroscience. In addition to developing external funding to support research endeavors, candidates will be expected to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels and provide service to the University, Department, and professional organizations. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Psychology or a relevant field by the start date of the appointment.

The Department of Psychology is distinguished in the nation for being the hub of two major large datasets that are significant for lifespan development: Virginia Cognitive Aging Project and the Genetics and Human Agency. In addition to the University-wide initiatives of the Brain Institute and the Data Sciences Institute, the University of Virginia has state of the art neuroimaging facilities, including a research-dedicated Siemens Prisma MRI machine, as well as many faculty incorporating electrophysiological, eye-tracking, and other similar approaches in their work, together fostering a rich and supportive community for neuroscientific research.

This position is part of the pan-University neuroscience initiative. This cross-Grounds initiative builds on momentum of the UVA Brain Institute and will help enable the expanding neuroscience undergraduate major, promote collaborative activity across the College of Arts & Sciences, the School of Medicine, and the School of Engineering and Applied Science, and ensure continuing prominence of neuroscience scholarship, education, and research. The candidate will be expected to collaborate with colleagues across Grounds, as well as with the UVA Brain Institute to advance the University's strategic interest in neuroscience, broadly conceived.

Review of applications will begin December 1, 2017, and the search will remain open until filled.

To apply candidates must submit a Candidate Profile through Jobs@UVa (https://jobs.virginia.edu), search on posting number 0621970 and electronically attach the following: a cover letter of interest, a research statement describing research agenda, a teaching statement experience, a curriculum vitae, up to three sample articles, and contact information for three references.
