Early Childhood Education Professor (Assistant or Associate) - College of Education

Required Qualifications:

  • Applicants must have a Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a closely related field. ABD candidates will be considered; doctoral degree must be completed by August 31, 2018
  • Ability and willingness to teach courses and to supervise research activities for undergraduate and graduate students
  • Demonstrated competence in university teaching, preferably having developed innovative instructional strategies for diverse student populations
  • Demonstrated commitment to pursuing scholarly activities such as research, publication, writing, and professional presentations
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Effective collaboration skills
  • Demonstrated record of successful teaching of infants, toddlers, preschool, and/or K-3rd grade students
  • Demonstrated knowledge of social/critical theories and multicultural education
  • Demonstrated leadership in the profession
    • Willingness to teach using multiple modes of instruction, including online, blended and distance learning technologies as well as deliver courses on weekends, or other non-traditional times
  • Willingness to travel for instruction and student supervision

  • Preferred Qualifications:

    • Record of relevant scholarship including evidence of an emerging research agenda
    • Knowledge of and experience with legislative policies impacting Early Childhood Education
    • Knowledge of and experience with diverse students and families
    • Knowledge of and experience with program accreditation
    • Demonstrated commitment though teaching, research and/or service that values equity, inclusion, and social justice  
    • Active engagement in professional organizations
    • Demonstrated interest in collaboration and engagement with diverse students, staff, faculty, and the university community
    • Experience working to advance student learning, development, and success in early childhood and special education settings


    • Teach graduate courses in the M.Ed. Early Childhood Education program
    • Teach undergraduate courses in Early Childhood Education
    • Supervision of candidates in the field
    • Prepare graduate students to assume professional positions in Early Childhood Education and meet the needs of diverse student populations
    • Work with traditional and non-traditional student populations
    • Foster and support inclusive practices among our students, faculty, and community
    • Advise students in Early Childhood Education programs
    • Pursue scholarly activities such as research, publication, writing, and professional presentations
    • Assist with recruitment and selection of prospective graduate students
    • Provide service to the unit, university, profession, and community
    • Participate in program assessment, evaluation, and accreditation
    • Promote the profession and program at local and state levels by providing leadership in the broader child development and education community
