The Department of Biology in the College of Science and Mathematics invites applications and nominations for the position of Aquaponics Academic Professional and Lecturer. This position is located on the Armstrong campus.

In January 2017, the University System of Georgia Board of Regents voted to consolidate Armstrong State University and Georgia Southern University. The new, 27,000-student university will be named Georgia Southern University with campuses in Savannah, Statesboro, and Hinesville. Within this setting, the Department of Biology at the Armstrong campus consists of a diverse faculty of teacher-scholars who excel at providing transformative experiences to students. Our faculty are highly committed to engaging students in academic and research pursuits in and out of the classroom. Our facilities and instrumentation include a greenhouse, herbarium, 3D printer, and next generation sequencer and the faculty have access to instrumentation and facilities available at the Statesboro campus. The department collaborates with the College's Foram Sustainable Aquaponics Research Center (SARC), a joint venture between the College and the Foram Foundation that integrates aquaculture with hydroponics to support faculty and student research in aquaculture, hydroponic agriculture and sustainability. Our faculty and students thrive as life-long learners in the incredible natural research setting of south Georgia, which includes the coastal plain, sea islands and estuaries in and around the communities of Savannah, Statesboro and Hinesville.

Position Description. Reporting to the department chair and SARC director, the Aquaponics Academic Professional and Lecturer will teach 1-2 courses each academic term, curate SARC facilities, and supervise student staff. The position is an academic 12-month, non-tenure-track appointment, and the salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Required Qualifications:
Earned master's degree in Biological Sciences, or a closely related field with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Biological Sciences, by 31 December 2017
Experience related to fish husbandry and hydroponics

Preferred Qualifications:
Aquaculture and/or hydroponic farming experience
Experience maintaining recirculating aquaponics systems
Teaching experience
