Duties: The Bonasio laboratory seeks a full time Research Specialist to provide support with molecular biology experiments, laboratory maintenance, and insect husbandry. One major task will be to perform microinjections of ant embryos to create ant mutant lines to study the effect of genes on social behavior. Other tasks include maintaining our ant colony and help with traditional molecular biology techniques including plasmid cloning, as well as purification and analysis of DNA, RNA, and proteins.
Previous experiences with microinjections and/or with insects in the laboratory is a plus but not mandatory. The position does requires daily handling of ants (mostly Harpegnathos saltator).

Specific experiments will be designed by the Principal Investigator or by other lab personnel, but the Research Specialist A is expected to modify and troubleshoot procedures as needed, assist in developing the appropriate protocols, and report progress to the PI or other supervisor. The Research Specialist A will also keep accurate lab notebooks and perform data analysis.

Qualifications: A Bachelor's Degree and 0 to 1 year of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
