Ball State University seeks a dynamic and proven human resources professional to serve as its next Associate Vice President, Human Resources (AVPHR). This is an exciting opportunity to lead the Division of Human Resources to new levels of strategic engagement, service-delivery, and collaboration with the campus and external communities. Success in the role requires an innovative leader with demonstrated experience driving strategic organizational change in a complex enterprise.

Ball State is a thriving public research university located in Muncie, Indiana, one hour northeast of bustling Indianapolis. A Midwest academic and athletic powerhouse, the university is nationally recognized for its strong academic programs, cutting-edge facilities and technology, and commitment to sustainability. In fall 2017, Ball State University reached its highest enrollment in the institution’s history, with 22,513 students enrolled on and off campus. Ball State’s seven academic colleges offer more than 190 undergraduate majors, 130 minors, and 140 master’s, doctoral, certificate, and specialist degrees.

Reporting to the Vice President for Business Affairs & Treasurer, the new AVPHR will play a key role the transformation of Ball State’s Human Resources (HR) division into a strategic, trusted campus partner that provides responsive policies, services, and programs for the Ball State community. Working collaboratively with leaders across the university and within the community, this person will be charged with developing and implementing a shared vision for HR at Ball State; leading and implementing process and technology improvements to ensure that faculty and staff have access to consistent, high-quality HR information, services, and resources; serving as the chief advocate and strategist for issues related to people; and providing inspirational leadership to an evolving team of HR professionals who provide responsive, and effective customer service at the highest levels.

The ideal candidate will bring proven leadership and management skills and a record of success developing and implementing HR programs, plans, policies and procedures, and maximizing the use of technology to enhance communication and efficiency. This person will bring significant human resources leadership experience in higher education or a comparably complex setting, and will possess broad knowledge of labor, employment, compensation, and benefits regulations and practices, along with a deep commitment to developing and maintaining a diverse and inclusive community of employees.
