Position Summary: The University of Alabama (UA) School of Library and Information Studies (SLIS) invites nominations and applications for an assistant professor position on a non-tenure track renewable contract (NTRC) starting in August 2018. This position carries a 4/4 teaching load, and is structured as a renewable 3-year contract with annual performance review. The NTRC track is a career pathway, with opportunities for professional advancement within SLIS, including the possibility of promotion to NTRC associate and full professor.

This position carries a 4/4 teaching load, and is structured as a renewable 3-year contract with annual performance review. The NTRC track is a career pathway, with opportunities for professional advancement within SLIS, including the possibility of promotion to NTRC associate and full professor. The School of Library and Information Studies is part of the College of Communication and Information Sciences (CCIS), and offers an ALA-accredited Master's program (online and face-to-face), an MFA program in the book arts and doctoral courses that contribute to a multidisciplinary doctorate in Communication and Information Sciences. SLIS has a growing focus on social justice in the curriculum and an internationally recognized faculty with strong commitments to equity, inclusion, access, and diversity as reflected in our research, teaching, and service. CCIS also supports a Diversity Research Forum of faculty throughout the College engaged in diversity-related research and scholarly activities. The successful candidate will have an opportunity to contribute to School's mission of educating and preparing information professionals for careers in contemporary and emerging technological environments. The School has nationally ranked on-campus and online degree programs. All faculty members are expected to work with diverse constituencies, contribute to the core curriculum, and evidence a commitment to excellence in teaching. Teaching areas of particular interest include any of the following (in alphabetical order): * Cybersecurity * Database Management * Digital Libraries * Implementation of Technology in Information Organizations Qualifications: * Earned doctorate by time of appointment in library and information studies or a cognate area * Demonstrated teaching ability, including ability to teach in the required core curriculum * Demonstrated commitment to professional service Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until February 14, 2018.
