Within this setting, the Department of Mechanical Engineering, which has 26 permanent faculty positions and over 1,300 students, offers undergraduate courses in the traditional sub-disciplines of mechanical engineering (energy science, materials and manufacturing, mechatronics, design and analysis), general engineering sciences, and graduate courses leading to a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering or a Master of Science in Applied Engineering. Both the curricular and the research activities of the faculty have a strong applied emphasis, bridging theory with practice, extending the learning environment beyond the classroom, and offering a student-centered environment enhanced by technology and transcultural experiences within private and public partnerships. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the mission of the department by developing and teaching undergraduate and graduate-level lecture and laboratory courses; establishing a funded research program that involves university colleagues, regional industry, and both graduate and undergraduate students; and engaging in academic and professional service that technically and economically enriches our various communities and societies.
