Primary Function of Organization Unit: As the extension arm of the NC State University College of Engineering, Industry Expansion Solutions (IES) is a major component of the State's economic development strategy. By diffusing engineering, science and technology to industry, business, and public agencies, IES delivers and/or develops professional education and technical assistance to meet the needs of industry leaders and technical professionals to promote growth and produce quality products.
Essential Job Duties: The Assistant Director for Process Improvement provides leadership and supervision for a team of Extension Specialist to ensure the attainment of a series of goals that inform and drive the IES Business Plan. He/she serves as Product Lead for Lean and Six Sigma Process Improvement Service Sector and will manage goal setting and measuring performance against goals. He/she is expected to promote and utilize Salesforce for client engagement, product services, and communications. He/she will be responsible for oversight of the team to insure service delivery work and communications for client work are input into Salesforce. The individual will develop and manage budgets for product offerings, be responsible for scoping work content for IES clients, and formally approve Salesforce budgets. He/she is expected to be the catalyst and focal point for the product line. Their work will include supporting the new vision of extension operations with enhanced client engagement, making sales calls, plus assigning and managing resources for the product line. This is a working manager position and one is expected to provide services while managing and promoting the business unit. The role and time of contract shall be designated under the University's guidelines for EHRA employment. Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Leadership (15%): Manages a team of Extension Specialist responsible for designated service-oriented goals, tracking and reporting performance of the business unit, as well as the technical leadership of the product line. He/she may be asked to assist with recruiting IES staff. He/she must maintain a working level of awareness of all IES programs, industry needs, trends, and best practices. 2. Technical Service (25%): Provides hands-on technical assistance to the clients, with solutions that come from the incumbent's experience with the process, materials, or product. 3. Promotion (15%): Promotes all IES services via relationships, web tools, on-site visits, networking, presentations, reports, marketing materials, educational programs, electronically and by other means available. Represent IES and NCMEP at conferences and meetings to include speaking engagements, presentations, etc. 4. Economic Impact (5%): Supports the efforts to administer an objective evaluation system that measures the impact services for the economic benefit of the client and State. 5. Relationship and Sales (30%): Makes direct contact with current and potential future clients. Engagement efforts include meetings with leaders to gain a firm understanding of their business goals, organizational structure, and key leadership personnel. Work on building relationships for IES to become the support organization of choice for advice and counsel. When appropriate, provide recommendations to improve an organization's effectiveness and efficiency. The goal is to build relationships. 6. Administration (10%): Maintains quality assurance of the product offerings and brand. Oversees timesheets, travel, expenses, and business reports as required. Serves on committees as assigned. Managing Salesforce data is a priority for the business.
Minimum Education/Experience: - Master's degree or Bachelor's degree plus at least 10 years successful experience is necessary.
Department Required Skills: - A strong work ethic and a willingness to travel. - Candidate should have demonstrated Lean classroom teaching experience, Kaizen (Rapid Improvement) facilitation experience and must be able to lead cross-functional teams. - Candidate should have experience coaching and mentoring people and teams together with training experience teaching adult learners. - High proficiency in the use of a personal computer. - Good communication and project management skills. - Demonstrated Applied Lean work experience. - Documented experience in the application of good business practices and ethics. - The physical ability for a wide range of activities. - Ability to work self-directed.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: - Master's Degree preferred. - Lean Six Sigma Black Belt or Master Black Belt. - Lean healthcare and service industry experience. - Six Sigma experience is a plus, with Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification. - A working knowledge of other quality management principles, process excellence, and continuous improvement practices together with experience overseeing an organization's continuous improvement program. - A background in strategic planning. - Experience with customer service, community relations, continuing education, marketing execution, and sales.
Necessary Licenses and Certifications: Ability to obtain a NC Driver's License within the first 60 days of employment. Must be maintained as a condition of employment.
