Job Description Summary: As a member of the University Communications team, the Senior Writer is responsible for writing and editing content for multiple mediums including print, web, social, digital and advertising, with the goal of illustrating the impact of Furman and its students, faculty, staff and alumni. The Senior Writer will create and edit content for a wide range of print and digital communications including magazine stories, news releases, marketing and advertising materials, internal communications and speeches and presentations. The Senior Writer will adapt the tone of their writing to ensure that messages are targeted toward various audiences. Working in the Strategic Communications group, the Senior Writer reports to the magazine editor and assists the editor and Assistant Vice President for Strategic Communications in developing story ideas and strategies. The Senior Writer collaborates with creative services and digital marketing, faculty and staff to deliver creative and compelling stories. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in journalism or communications-related discipline required. Excellent writing and verbal communications skills. Demonstrated writing abilities for multiple styles and platforms and expertise of AP Style.

Preferred Qualifications: Master's preferred, with 5 or more years of experience in journalism, communications or related field. Experience in higher education or related field.

Salary Grade: Level 13 Salary commensurate with education and experience.
