Extension Evaluation Specialist

Job Summary: Position Overview: The Extension Evaluation Specialist is a faculty member in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CAES) directly supporting Cooperative Extension at the University of Georgia and is responsible for the evaluation of Extension programs throughout the state. CAES is one of the largest colleges of agriculture in the nation and supports a $74.3 billion agricultural industry, the largest sector of the economy in the state of Georgia. For over 100 years, UGA Cooperative Extension has provided free, reliable, research-based information to farmers and businesses and has taught life skills and lessons to millions of young people. Administrative Relationships: * This new position will accomplishes tasks under the direction and leadership of the Associate Dean for Extension. * Faculty appointment will be as a University of Georgia College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences 12-month Public Service, Academic Professional, or Tenure-Track faculty position in the Office of Learning and Organizational Development (OLOD), a part of the Office of the Associate Dean for Extension located on the Athens campus. OLOD is an academic, research-based outreach unit that seeks to empower Extension professionals (faculty and staff) and Extension audiences. The office serves and supports functions of UGA Extension by focusing on overall program development, staff development, evaluation, and leadership development through training and support. Major Responsibilities: * Works with appropriate county, district, and state Extension faculty to implement a comprehensive plan for evaluating Extension educational programs and activities across all three program areas (agriculture and natural resources, family and consumer sciences, and 4-H youth development) * Develops evaluation strategies, assessment instruments, and impact reports for regular programming and funded projects * Provides leadership in the development of longitudinal data collection regarding programmatic or system-wide impact over time * Provides leadership in the development of accountability reports for state and national Extension stakeholders * Provides leadership over the impact statement submission process including improvements to the current process, training of faculty for best practices, development of state and federal reports as needed, and communication of key impacts to stakeholders and funding agencies * Develops and delivers training and serves as a resource to county, district, and state Extension personnel in the areas of program evaluation and accountability * Develops educational materials and publications related to Extension program accountability and evaluation * Works effectively with University of Georgia administrators, UGA Public Service Units, Fort Valley State University Extension, state and federal agency personnel, and industry clientele in addressing issues related to accountability, impact and public value * Assumes other duties as directed by the Director of County Operations, Associate Dean for Extension, and Dean and Director of CAES The University of Georgia is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer. Minimum Qualifications: Qualifications: * Terminal degree from an accredited university in agricultural and/or extension education, evaluation, adult education, human sciences, economics, behavioral, and social sciences, public policy, or closely related field The search committee will take the final candidate's appointment preference into consideration at the time of offer. Preferred Qualifications: * Extension experience is highly desirable but not mandatory. Substantial knowledge and understanding of Extension organization, operation, philosophy, and objectives is preferred. * Expertise in qualitative and quantitative analysis as well as research methodology * Ability to translate technical concepts related to program or project evaluation into terms that are meaningful to lay audiences and that indicate impact and public value * Demonstrated success in designing, implementing, and managing the evaluation of educational programs and evidence-based or applied-research projects, including sampling methodology, instrument design and selection, logic model development, data analysis, and preparation of evaluation reports * Evidence of successful grant and contract development activities with state and federal agencies, private entities, or foundations * Ability to effectively relate to and communicate with staff, faculty, and the public * Ability to work across multiple program areas * Ability to conduct statistical analyses and use computer applications in the evaluation of educational programs and activities * Knowledge and proficiency in the use of communication and education technology in support of program delivery, training, and staff development * High degree of competency in human relations skills, including interpersonal and team-based skills, strong work-ethic and self-motivation, responsible behavior and judgment, strong organizational skills, and attention to detail
