POSITION: Tenure-line, open-rank faculty position, beginning August 2018, Department of Education

QUALIFICATIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  The ideal candidate will embrace Central College's commitment to be a leader in preparing the next generation of K-12 educators in the state of Iowa.  Our new colleague will join an active and highly collaborative partnership with school districts, local corporations, cross-curricular college departments, and state-level agencies on current state education initiatives.   

The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Education (ABD considered). Candidates must have K-6 Education teaching credentials/certification and successful teaching experience in the K-6 general education setting. College teaching experience is desirable.  Our new colleague will have the opportunity to develop and teach undergraduate courses in the teacher preparation program (e.g., Elementary Education curricular methods courses and Foundations of Education) and college-wide liberal arts courses. Additionally, candidates will be expected to contribute to program development and assessment, advising and mentoring of students, supervision of practicum and student teaching experiences, and engaging in scholarship and service that contributes to the institution and profession.

Central's DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION featuring both Elementary Education and Secondary Education is a highly collaborative,  collegial department that is well integrated in the life of campus across disciplines and provides rich and meaningful collaborative opportunities with regional school districts and community partners.  Central College Education students exhibit highly successful Praxis Exam completion rates (over 96%) and are annually awarded the Recognition of Excellence Indicator Award for exemplary scores.

The department is highly committed to a novel developmental model to prepare students to become effective educators in elementary and secondary education.  This unique model aligns with InTASC standards for teacher preparation and provides students with fundamental, developmentally appropriate coursework and experiences.  The Central Teachers Academy (CTA) is an exceptional teacher preparation program, highly regarded in the state, and the only one of its kind in Iowa.  CTA students are trained and paired with mentor teachers in the Pella Community School District and Pella Christian School for three years.
