Primary Function of Organization Unit: The Engineering Communications unit within the College of Engineering provides support for all communications, including writing, editing, graphic design, web management, social media, publications, marketing and media relations for the College of Engineering. The service center portion of the unit provides these services for a fee to other colleges and departments within NC State University.

Essential Job Duties: *This position is time limited and is expected to last 2 years* This position will provide support to the College of Engineering in the form of technical and scientific graphic designs and illustrations for technical papers, journal articles, research projects and other publications for students and faculty within the College of Engineering and NC State University. This position will independently provide graphic design services that include scientific and technical illustration and graphic design. Work is mainly focused on support of research projects, journal articles and technical presentations. Incumbent in this position will meet with faculty members to discuss their needs and will then create a technical drawing or illustration to meet the faculty members needs. This position will also perform other publication and graphic design for the College and its departments/units. This position is responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with clients from across the College as well as in other colleges on campus to support the fee for service mission of Engineering Communications.

Minimum Education/Experience:

Department Required Skills: * Must have extensive knowledge in at least one engineering or science field and ability to understand highly technical engineering jargon. * Proficiency in Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, Microsoft Powerpoint. * Ability to produce solid designs in a timely manner. * Ability to develop technical and scientific graphic designs for illustrating technical information. * Ability to develop and maintain relationships with clients.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: * Prefer master's degree or PhD in an engineering-related field, preferably in bioengineering, chemical engineering, materials science and engineering. * Experience developing technical and scientific graphic designs for illustrating technical information.
