The Department of Mathematical Sciences in the College of Science and Mathematics invites applications and nominations for the position of Lecturer of Statistics. This position will be located on the Statesboro campus.

In January 2017, the University System of Georgia Board of Regents voted to consolidate Armstrong State University and Georgia Southern University. The new, 27,000-student university will be named Georgia Southern University with campuses in Savannah, Statesboro, and Hinesville. Within this setting, the Department of Mathematical Sciences contributes significantly to the mission of the University through scholarly endeavors, engagement of students, and outreach to the community and the profession. The department, which has 50 full-time faculty members on the Statesboro campus and 20 full-time faculty members on the Armstrong campus, offers courses in mathematics, mathematics education, and statistics, and has undergraduate programs in mathematics and a certificate program in actuarial science. The Statesboro campus offers a Master of Science program with concentrations in Pure and Applied Mathematics, Statistics, and Computational Science. The department features an energetic faculty with active colloquia and seminar series, including a Distinguished Lecture Series. In addition, many faculty members are active in professional organizations, some serving in leadership positions at the regional and national levels. It is expected that the successful candidates will strengthen these initiatives.

Position Description. Reporting to the department chair, the Lecturer position requires teaching and service responsibilities as well as at least a master's degree. The position centers on strengthening the department's undergraduate course offerings and will include a workload of 15 hours per semester in core curriculum courses, consisting of contact hours in the classroom and additional service associated with student success in the core curriculum. The successful candidate will also possess a commitment to innovative methods of instruction and professional development in the area of teaching. The position is a 9-month, non-tenure-track, appointment, and the salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Required Qualifications:
• At least an earned Master's degree in statistics or a closely related field with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in statistics by August 1, 2018.
• Evidence of a strong commitment to undergraduate education.
• Demonstrated effectiveness in instruction in statistics or the mathematical sciences.
• A minimum of 2 years of at least part-time college/university teaching experience.
• Good command of written and spoken English.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Earned doctorate in statistics.
• A minimum of 2 years full-time college/university teaching experience.
