Fitchburg State University seeks applications and nominations for the position of the Dean of the Amelia V. Gallucci-Cirio Library, which reports directly to the Provost. The Dean will be expected to assume office in July 2018 or as soon thereafter as is feasible.
Fitchburg State University is a public comprehensive institution with a strong and proud tradition of excellence in teaching, scholarship, and public service, and is situated on a 60-acre campus with a blend of modern and traditional architecture, located in Fitchburg, a small, urban community in North Central Massachusetts, 50 miles west of Boston.. The university offers more than 50 undergraduate and graduate degree programs in the arts, humanities, sciences, social sciences, and professional fields to more than 7,000 students annually, including approximately 3,000 graduate students, and is home to over 200 full-time faculty members in the day division.
The Amelia V. Gallucci-Cirio Library supports the teaching and scholarship mission of Fitchburg State University by providing a dynamic and collaborative learning space, both physically and virtually. Actively developing, maintaining, and creating accessible collections with evolving services is essential to this mission. Librarians and staff teach key information literacy skills that enable users to find, manage, critically evaluate, and use information effectively. The library's goal is to create an environment that fosters intellectual curiosity and the social, cultural, and professional development of students, faculty, and staff. The Amelia V. Gallucci-Cirio Library participates in the Massachusetts Commonwealth Consortium of Libraries in Public Higher Education Institutions (MCCLPHEI) to ensure economical and efficient library operations.
Requirements for the Dean of the Amelia V. Gallucci-Cirio Library include a master’s in Library Science or Master’s in Library Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution, with a preference for an earned doctorate and a record of progressively-responsible experience in academic library administration.
