Applied Sciences and Business Liaison and Reference Services Librarian

Founded in 1899, Mount Ida College is a small, private college in Newton, Massachusetts, just minutes from Boston which provides career focused programs built upon a strong foundation in the social sciences, humanities and the arts, all developed and implemented to prepare our approximately 1,400 students for success in their chosen fields of endeavor.

Mount Ida College seeks a qualified librarian with an MLIS from an ALA-accredited program to serve as the liaison to the Schools of Applied Science and Business, as well as manage our reference services. The librarian will develop and lead information-literacy instruction sessions, provide reference services and research help, both in-person and in an online learning environment, will carry out collection development responsibilities, and will provide outreach to Applied Science and Business faculty and students. In additional, the librarian will create the weekly reference desk schedule and provide reference services support to other staff as needed.

Essential Duties

1. To provide reference and research services to faculty, students, and staff, on campus and in an online learning environment
2. To carry out collection development responsibilities for roughly one-third of the library's collection, including evaluation, weeding, and purchasing
3. To support interlibrary loan services
4. To design, present, and assess information literacy classes.
5. To supervise college employment students during reference desk shifts.
6. To create and carry out outreach opportunities that promote campus-wide collaboration, especially within the Schools of Applied Sciences and Business
7. To create and manage the weekly Reference Desk schedule
8. To act as a lead on Reference Services, providing support to other staff and leading trainings when needed
9. To services and support to Applied Science and Business faculty wishing to embed resources and enhance design in their Learning Management System (LMS). These services would include one-on-one meetings with faculty members who seek out assistance, workshops, and trainings for other librarians.
10. Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor

Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

- Working knowledge of an integrated library system
- Knowledge of LibApps and OCLC preferred
- Experience with teaching or instruction
- Strong research and oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work independently
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks simultaneously
- Strong reference skills

Required Qualifications:

- Master's degree in Library and Information Sciences from an ALA-accredited program
- 2 years of post-degree, professional library work, preferably in an academic setting
- A second masters or background in Applied Sciences or Business preferred, but not required

Occasional evening and weekend hours are required.
