Advertised Job Summary
The Department of Theatre and Dance at the University of South Carolina invites applications for a nine-month tenure track faculty position at the level of Associate/Full Professor of Dance with a start date of August 16, 2018.
The position will require teaching across the dance curriculum and choreographing original work and/or restaging repertory for the University of South Carolina Dance Company. The teaching load will include three courses per semester and/or two courses and choreography for one dance concert. Teaching responsibilities are based on areas of expertise and could include the following areas: dance techniques such as ballet, contemporary, and jazz, specific world dance forms, dance history, kinesiology, introduction to dance in the collegiate environment, and/or dance pedagogy. In addition to teaching, departmental service will include student advising and recruitment as well as contribution to curriculum development in dance.Required Education and Experience
The successful applicant will have a PhD or MFA in Dance and exhibit the teaching experience, scholarship, and service record worthy of a tenure/tenure-track appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor within a nationally-accredited dance program at a Carnegie R1 Institution.
Interest in developing innovative curricula that reflects current trends in the field, as well as university initiatives, is expected. A strong record of scholarship, both creative and theoretical work, and a demonstrated record of professional stewardship in the field at the national level is required.Preferred Qualifications
Preferred qualifications of successful candidates should include a proven record of academic leadership with knowledge of assessment and program evaluation, production and/or artistic management, and mentoring of students within the university setting. A candidate possessing these qualifications will have the potential opportunity of leadership in the future development of the dance program.
