Primary Function of Organization Unit: The Nonwovens Institute (NWI) is the world's first accredited academic program for the interdisciplinary field of engineered fabrics. Based at the Centennial Campus of North Carolina State University in Raleigh, the NWI is an innovative global partnership between industry, government and academe. Operating on an "Open Innovation" platform, the Nonwovens Institute engages experts from industry and higher education in building next-generation nonwoven applications while also providing training and guidance to the field's future leaders.

Essential Job Duties: The NWI Model and Simulation Director will be responsible for expanding the strategic use of cutting-edge modeling methods and technologies at NWI. Job responsibilities include: Lead Model Tool Application: Expand the development and USAGE of modeling tools especially by working with NWI research projects on the implementation of modeling tools on projects (i.e., help PI's and students advance the use of modeling tools together with physical experimental methods). Thus, work with Model Thrust leaders and engage across the spectrum of NWI projects to share expertise and, where needed, to support student/faculty in developing and applying relevant modeling tools. An overall goal is to assess and ensure best-in-class modeling capability is applied and represented in NWI funded work. Spunmelt Model Development: Lead development of a modeling plan to predict spunmelt nonwoven properties relevant for a range of market segment applications based on feedstock characteristics and processing conditions. An overall goal is to create world-class virtual tools applicable for use on the R4 Spunbond and Meltblown processes, in combination with traditional physical experimental tools. IT Leadership: Provide IT leadership to create and implement initiatives related to office systems, pilot and lab systems, and web site management. An overall goal is to ensure NWI IT needs are met for best organizational productivity, for appropriate and expert connectivity of process and lab data systems, and for streamlined website management. Technical Trial Support: Provide product development support to the NWI Executive Director via technical consulting and trial support. An overall goal is to leverage technical expertise and diversity of thinking, but on a low frequency basis. Organizational Development: Provide a range of organizational contributions through consulting and leading special projects.

Minimum Education/Experience: PhD in engineering or related field, and at least ten years of related experience.

Department Required Skills: -In-depth knowledge of the nonwovens industry and developments -Knowledge of engineering software such as Geodict, Ansys, and Fluent -Knowledge of modeling software such as Autocad and SolidWorks -Knowledge of computer programming languages, particularly C and C++ -Ability to create strong, positive relationships with graduate students and faculty across the university -Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: -Experiencing training and/or educating graduate students preferred -Ability to speak French and/or German preferred
