Human Resources Benefits Specialist
Job Summary: The Human Resources Benefits Specialist will serve as the primary contact for employees, retirees, plan vendors and third-party administrators for benefit programs including all insurance and related plans (health, dental, vision, life/AD&D, critical illness, accident, hospitalization, long term care, pet, employee assistance program, tax-free flexible spending and transit/parking accounts), defined contribution retirement plans, and wellness initiatives. Duties focus in the areas of benefit plan design, implementation, and record-keeping; employee service, eligibility, enrollment, and communication; and federal/state regulation compliance. This is a full-time, at-will, administrative, exempt position that reports to the Vice President of Human Resources. Roosevelt University is a private, non-sectarian university with approximately 725 benefits-eligible regular employees serving 4,500 students studying at campuses in Chicago's south Loop, suburban Schaumburg and online. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: A bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university. A minimum of three years of high-performing, recent experience in human resources benefit administration. A positive, welcoming, kind, and professional demeanor is a must. Demonstrated success as a meticulous record-keeper of benefits plans. Understanding of and demonstrated ability to reconcile benefits premiums and contributions to remittances. Excellent organizational, communication (written and verbal), interpersonal skills, and attention to detail. Ability to exercise considerable judgment and discretion in establishing and maintaining good working relationships and confidentiality. Demonstrated knowledge of employee benefits plans and related federal and state regulations including but not limited to ACA, HIPAA, ERISA, COBRA, and DOL/IRS defined contributions retirement programs. Demonstrated experience assisting and advocating for employees on benefit issues with vendors. Experience of on-line enrollment process and vendor portals. Ability to make effective presentations in small and large group meetings. Ability and willingness to travel between and work at both the Chicago loop and Schaumburg campuses. Proficiency using Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word required. Experience entering into and using a payroll-integrated HR information system.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience in higher education or not-for-profit sectors Experience using Banner HR (HRIS) and Argos (report-writer)
